Clinical characteristics of neonatal and infant osteomyelitis and septic arthritis: a multicenter retrospective study
CONCLUSION: Distinct differences were found between neonatal and infants with osteoarticular infections. Future studies should focus on improving diagnosis and subsequent treatment regimens for younger age groups.PMID:38642591 | DOI:10.1016/j.jped.2024.03.003 (Source: Jornal de Pediatria)

Disrupting B and T cell Collaboration in Autoimmune Disease: T cell engagers versus CAR T cell therapy?
Clin Exp Immunol. 2024 Apr 20:uxae031. doi: 10.1093/cei/uxae031. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTB and T cells collaborate to drive autoimmune disease (AID). Historically, B and T cell (B-T cell) co-interaction was targeted through different pathways such as alemtuzumab, abatacept, and dapirolizumab with variable impact on B cell depletion (BCD), whereas the majority of patients with AID including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis and organ transplantation benefit from targeted BCD with anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies such as rituximab, ocrelizumab or ofatumumab. Refractory AID is a signi...

CD20  + T lymphocytes in isolated Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and type 3 autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome: a pilot study
ConclusionsThese preliminary findings indicate that CD8+CD20+ T cells are activated in patients with autoimmune thyroiditis and may behave differently according to the presence of poly-autoimmunity and hypothyroidism. (Source: Journal of Endocrinological Investigation)

Psoriatic arthropathy in patients with previous neoplasia: a case series of four patients treated with secukinumab and literature review
CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, our case series, consisting of four PsA patients with concurrent neoplasia treated with secukinumab, showed no evidence of cancer progression and represents the first case of PsA described in the literature treated during active oncological disease, lending support to the safety of secukinumab for the treatment of patients with PsA and concomitant neoplasia.PMID:38639525 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35919 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Programmed cell death in autoimmune diseases: ferroptosis
Ann Biol Clin (Paris). 2024 Apr 19;82(1):33-42. doi: 10.1684/abc.2024.1866.ABSTRACTFerroptosis is an iron dependent cell death driven by lipid peroxidation. Over the past decade, increasing evidence has confirmed that ferroptosis plays an irreplaceable role in the occurrence and development of many diseases, including various cancers, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases and autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune disease is an inflammatory disease characterized by the breakdown of immune tolerance. Nowadays, accumulating evidence indicates that ferroptosis is closely related to the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseas...

Emergency physicians must be adept at identifying limb and potentially life-threatening infection. Chief among these is septic arthritis. In addition to knowing how these joint infections typically present, clinicians need to be aware of host and pathogen factors that can lead to more insidious presentations and how these factors impact the interpretation of diagnostic tests.PMID:38641390 | DOI:10.1016/j.emc.2024.01.002 (Source: The Medical Clinics of North America)

A single chain variable fragment antibody (Tn 64) cognate to fibronectin type III repeats promotes corneal wound healing by inhibiting fibrosis
We examined corneal epithelial as well as stromal wound healing through Tn64 binding to Tn fn 3-5, using a human corneal epithelial cell (HCEC) line, primary cultures of human corneal fibroblasts (HCFs), and an ex-vivo corneal organ culture model. Tn64 enhanced proliferation and adhesion of corneal epithelial cells, while inhibiting the migration of corneal fibroblasts and myofibroblasts. Tn64 appears to attenuate inflammation through downregulation of TNF-α, prevent corneal fibrosis by limiting fibronectin polymerization, and promote regeneration of corneal epithelia and stroma, suggesting that it could be developed as a...
