The Role of Dietary Patterns and Nutritional Supplements in the Management of Mental Disorders in Children and Adolescents: An Umbrella Review of Meta-Analyses: Le r ôle des habitudes alimentaires et des suppléments nutritionnels dans la prise en charge des troubles mentaux chez les enfants et les adolescents : une méta-revue de méta-analyses
CONCLUSION: Our findings emphasize the need to establish clear causal relationships between dietary habits and the risk of mental illness in children and adolescents. Moreover, further investigation of the benefits observed with some nutrient supplements (such as omega-3 and vitamin D for ADHD) through larger-scale RCTs is imperative to establish more robust conclusions.PMID:38689430 | DOI:10.1177/07067437241248070 (Source: Canadian Journal of Psychiatry)

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 2091: Antibiofilm Activity of Combretum micranthum G. Don Catechin & ndash;Sugar Phytocomplex on Pseudomonas aeruginosa
In this study, an extract from the leaves of Combretum micranthum G. Don, named Cm4-p, which was previously investigated for its antimicrobial activities, was assayed for its capacity to inhibit biofilm formation and/or to eradicate formed biofilms. The model strain P. aeruginosa PAO1 and its isogenic biofilm hyperproducer derivative B13 were treated with Cm4-p. Preliminary IR, UV-vis, NMR, and mass spectrometry analyses showed that the extract was mainly composed of catechins bearing different sugar moieties. The phytocomplex (3 g/L) inhibited the biofilm formation of both the PAO1 and B13 strains in a significant manner....

Sirt7/HIC1 complex participates in hyperglycaemia-mediated EndMT via modulation of SDC1 expression in diabetic kidney disease and metabolic memory
This study demonstrated that the hyperglycaemia-mediated interaction between Sirt7 and HIC1 exerts a role in the metabolic memory in DKD by inactivating SDC1 transcription and mediating EndMT despite glucose normalization in HGECs.PMID:38686489 | DOI:10.1111/jcmm.18336 (Source: Molecular Medicine)

Effect of xanthan gum (XG) and carrageenan (CG) ratio on casein (CA)-XG-CG ternary complex: Used to improve the stability of liquid diabetes formula food for special medical purposes
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Apr 26:131770. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131770. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPoor storage stability limits the application of liquid diabetes formula food for special medical purposes (L-D-FSMP) in maintaining blood sugar stability in diabetic patients. This work aims to improve the stability of L-D-FSMP by adjusting the ratio of xanthan gum (XG) and carrageenan (CG) in casein (CA)-XG-CG ternary complex. The centrifugal sedimentation rate results showed that the compound ratio of XG and CG had a greater impact on L-D-FSMP storage stability. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results showe...

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 2076: Structural Characterization of Polygonatum Cyrtonema Polysaccharide and Its Immunomodulatory Effects on Macrophages
Limin Gong A neutral Polygonatum cyrtonema polysaccharide (NPCP) was isolated and purified from Polygonatum cyrtonema by various chromatographic techniques, including DEAE-52 and Sephadex-G100 chromatography. The structure of NPCP was characterized by HPLC, HPGPC, GC-MS, FT-IR, NMR, and SEM. Results showed that NPCP is composed of glucose (55.4%) and galactose (44.6%) with a molecular weight of 3.2 kDa, and the sugar chain of NPCP was →1)-α-D-Glc-(4→1)-β-D-Gal-(3→. In vitro bioactivity experiments demonstrated that NPCP signifi...

In search of an appropriate front-of-package nutritional labelling scheme for the CARICOM region
This study aims to evaluate the impact of the proposed CARICOM Octagon “High In” Warning Label (OWL), against four alternative Front-of-Package Nutrition Labels (FOPNLs): US “Facts Up Front” (FUF), UK Multi-Traffic Light (MTL), Mexican OWL and the Brazilian Magnifying Glass “High In” Warning Label, on respondents’ purchase intentions, perception of healthiness and understanding of nutritional information across and within food products. In an online randomized control experiment, adults from eight CARICOM countries (n = 948) were randomly assigned to a control and four treatment FOPNL groups. Respondents were ...
