Graviola mitigates acetic acid-induced ulcerative colitis in rats: insight on apoptosis and Wnt/Hh signaling crosstalk.
In this study, we elucidated the potential protective effects of graviola leaves, compared with sulfasalazine, against acetic acid (AA)-induced ulcerative colitis (UC) in rats. Twenty-eight mature male rats were divided into four groups, Sham, Colitis, Colitis/Sulfa, and Colitis/Graviola, and were treated orally with either saline, saline, sulfasalazine (100 mg/kg/day), or graviola (100 mg/kg/day), respectively, for 7 days. On the 4th day, UC was induced by transrectal administration of 4% AA. Colon tissues were excised for macroscopic and histopathological evaluation and immunohistochemical analysis of caspase-3, B-cell l...

Phytochemical fractions from Annona muricata seeds and fruit pulp inhibited the growth of breast cancer cells through cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase
In this study, we have extracted phytochemicals that exhibited anti-cancer property from the (a) fruit pulp using methanol (AMPM) and water (AMPW); and (b) seeds using methanol (AMSM). Qualitative phytochemical analysis showed the presence of phenolics, tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, sterols, terpenoids, carbohydrates and proteins in AMPM and AMPW. All three extracts were first checked for in vitro antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and then tested for efficacy against MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231. Results: Among these three extracts, AMSM showed the highest antioxidant power as well as ~80% inhibition at 32...

Prevalence of Complementary/Alternative Medicine use in Cancer Patients in a Tertiary Hospital in Puerto Rico.
CONCLUSION: Our data show that CAM use is significantly more common in those with higher education, younger age, and those living in non-metropolitan areas. Vitamin C and soursop (Graviola or guanábana) proved to be the two most common CAM treatments, respectively. PMID: 33320457 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Puerto Rico Health Sciences Journal)

Influence of Storage Conditions on the Quality, Metabolites, and Biological Activity of Soursop (Annona muricata. L.) Kombucha
This study aimed to optimize the production of soursop kombucha and determine the effects of different storage conditions on the quality, metabolites, and biological activity. The response surface method (RSM) results demonstrated that the optimum production parameters were 300 ml soursop juice, 700 ml black tea, and 150 g sugar and 14 days fermentation at 28°C. The storage conditions showed significant (P < 0.05) effects on the antioxidant activity including the highest antioxidant activity for the sample stored for 14 days at 25°C in light and the highest total phenolic content (TPC) for the sample stored for 7 days...
