Diets supplemented with Annona muricata improve the symptoms of fibromyalgia
In this study, the effect of the consumption of Annona muricata L. (Annonaceae) leaves (AM) was investigated on a model for intermittent cold stress (ICS)-induced fibromyalgia in mice. An aqueous extract of AM was investigated in experiments involving 60 five-week-old female mice C57BL/6J.The animals were allocated into six groups (n = 10). Groups (I) Healthy control, (II) ICS control, and (III) ICS + acetaminophen (0.5%), were all fed a standard diet, while groups (IV) and (V) received standard diets supplemented with 15% (AM15) and 30% (AM30) aqueous extract of AM leaves, respectively. Group (VI) received a stand...

Integrated in silico-in vitro strategy for screening of some traditional Egyptian plants for human aromatase inhibitors
ConclusionThe suggested strategy provides a reliable means of prospecting in-silico screening of natural products databases in the search for new dug leads as aromatase inhibitors. The hits so obtained can then be subjected to further phytochemical studies, to isolate and identify suitable compounds for further in-vitro testing.Graphical abstract (Source: Journal of Ethnopharmacology)

Cytotoxicity, antitumor-promoting and antioxidant activities of Annona muricata in vitro
This study aimed to determine the cytotoxicity, antitumor-promoting and antioxidant activities of Annona muricata various extracts and its isolated acetogenin, annonacin in vitro. All samples were subjected to the inhibition of Epstein-Barr virus early antigen (EBV-EA) activation assay induced by the tumor promoter, 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA) on Raji cells. Prior to EBV-EA assay, [3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide] (MTT) assay was performed to determine the samples’ cytotoxicity against Raji cells. Antioxidant activity was performed via 2, 2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline...

Effects of Soursop flowers (Annona muricata L.) extract on chemical changes of refined palm olein stored at frying temperature
In this study, the antioxidant activity of soursop flowers extract in delaying palm olein oxidation at frying temperature was assessed. The oil was supplemented with the extract at concentrations 200–1800 ppm, and stored in the oven at 180 °C for 6 days (4 h heating per day). Palm olein containing butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) served as positive control while the same oil without antioxidant (Control) served as negative one, in order to monitor changes in oils. After each two heating days, oil samples were collected, and their chemical indexes were determined. Peroxide, para-anisidine, TOTOX, thioba...

Publication date: August 2018 Source:LWT, Volume 94 Author(s): Lee Sin Chang, Roselina Karim, Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, Hasanah Mohd Ghazali Soursop (Annona muricata L.) is a tropical fruit that undergoes rapid postharvest deterioration. Conversion into puree is a way to value add the fruit. Pectinex® Ultra SP-L, Celluclast® 1.5 L, and Fungamyl® 800 L (0–5% v/w) were used to treat fruit pulp and pectinase at 1.5% (v/w) concentration was chosen as the primary enzyme in combined enzymes study because it produced the best result in liquefaction. A liquefied puree with reduced viscosity of up to 50% (15.20 ±...
