Correction of Congenital Syndactyly of the Hand with Minimal Full-Thickness Skin Graft from the Weight-Bearing Midline Plantar Area
CONCLUSION: Correction of congenital hand syndactyly using midline plantar FTSG from the weight-bearing area can reduce scarring on the hand dorsum, ensure superior color similarity with surrounding skin, and offer inconspicuous donor sites compared to no-skin-graft or groin FTSG techniques.PMID:38652871 | DOI:10.1097/PRS.0000000000011484 (Source: Hand Surgery)

The application of umbilical cord blood-derived platelet gel for skin ulcers associated with chronic graft-versus-host disease in pediatrics: A randomized trial
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a definitive therapy for a myriad of malignant and non-malignant hematopoietic, immune-related, and lysosomal storage disorders1, 2. However, graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), the main complication of allogeneic HSCT (allo-HSCT), significantly compromises the survival and the quality of life of recipients3-5. Accordingly, chronic GVHD (cGVHD) afflicts 20-50% of allo-HSCT cases6 and is one of the principal etiologies of morbidity and compromised quality of life, especially among pediatric patients7, 8. The interpositional bypass with a parietal branch of superficial temporal artery graft for symptomatic atherosclerotic anterior cerebral artery stenosis or occlusion
CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicate that PISAB, as a safe superficial bypass, can effectively reduce the risk of stroke in SAASO patients. More precise conclusions will require randomized control studies.PMID:38645741 | PMC:PMC11026711 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2024.1361151 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Fish skin grafts versus standard of care on wound healing of chronic diabetic foot ulcers: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Fish skin grafts have been shown to be more effective for achieving complete ulcer healing compared to current conventional treatments in diabetic foot disease.PMID:38644082 | DOI:10.1016/j.pcd.2024.03.008 (Source: Primary Care)

Cellular therapeutics and immunotherapies in wound healing - on the pulse of time?
Mil Med Res. 2024 Apr 18;11(1):23. doi: 10.1186/s40779-024-00528-5.ABSTRACTChronic, non-healing wounds represent a significant challenge for healthcare systems worldwide, often requiring significant human and financial resources. Chronic wounds arise from the complex interplay of underlying comorbidities, such as diabetes or vascular diseases, lifestyle factors, and genetic risk profiles which may predispose extremities to local ischemia. Injuries are further exacerbated by bacterial colonization and the formation of biofilms. Infection, consequently, perpetuates a chronic inflammatory microenvironment, preventing the prog...

A prospective analysis of the efficacy of phase II autologous skin grafting on deep second ‑degree burns on the dorsum of the hand
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Mar 27;27(5):238. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12526. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTThe aim of the present study was to investigate the possibility of reducing the damage to the donor site while preserving the functional recovery of the dorsum of the hand following burn injury. An attempt was made to analyze the effect of a phased surgery approach on inflammatory indicators. A two-phase treatment was administered on a total of 64 patients with deep second-degree burns on the dorsum of the hand who were admitted to Guangzhou Red Cross Hospital between January 2020 and March 2023. During phase I treatment, the wou...

Fe < sup > 3+ < /sup > -induced coordination cross-linking gallic acid-carboxymethyl cellulose self-healing hydrogel
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Apr 15:131626. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131626. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSelf-healing hydrogel is a promising soft material for applications in wound dressings, drug delivery, tissue engineering, biomimetic electronic skin, and wearable electronic devices. However, it is a challenge to fabricate the self-healing hydrogels without external stimuli. Inspired by mussel, the metal-catechol complexes were introduced into the hydrogel systems to prepare the mussel-inspired hydrogels by regulating the gelation kinetics of Fe3+ crosslinkers with gallic acid (GA) in this research. The amine-functi...

Reconstruction of soft tissue defects of the Achilles region: a simple algorithm through a lateral approach
ConclusionsPeroneal artery perforators are safe for the elevation of a perforator-based flap. In case of no suitable perforator, it is possible to harvest a db-PB flap through the same surgical incision. EPAP flap can be used as rescue-procedure after harvesting a propeller PAP flap. For small-to-moderate defects, a lateral approach provides a reconstructive armamentarium that ranges from the propeller perforator flaps, to those extended up to peroneal artery to the distally-based peroneus brevis muscle.Level of EvidenceLevel IV, Therapeutic Study (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

Combined dasatinib and quercetin treatment contributes to skin rejuvenation through selective elimination of senescent cells in vitro and in vivo
Biogerontology. 2024 Apr 15. doi: 10.1007/s10522-024-10103-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe skin's protective functions are compromised over time by both endogenous and exogenous aging. Senescence is well-documented in skin phenotypes, such as wrinkling and sagging, a consequence of the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) that involves the accumulation of senescent fibroblasts, chronic inflammation, and collagen remodeling. Although therapeutic approaches for eliminating senescent cells from the skin are available, their efficacy remains unclear. Accordingly, we aimed to examine the effects of dasatinib in...
