Platelet rich plasma for facial rejuvenation: an overview of systematic reviews
This article aims to review the literature and critically appraise the available evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of PRP for facial rejuvenation.MATERIAL AND METHODS: An overview of systematic reviews (SRs) of PRP use for facial rejuvenation. The methodological quality of the SRs was assessed using the AMSTAR-2 checklist; quality of the evidence from the trials included in each SR was appraised following the GRADE approach.RESULTS: Thirteen SRs published between 2015 and 2023, reporting data from 114 overlapping reports, based on 28 individual primary studies (18 uncontrolled reports), were included in this umbre...

A single-center, open-labeled, randomized, 6-month, parallel-group study to assess the safety and efficacy of allogeneic cultured keratinocyte sheet transplantation for deep second-degree burn wounds: rationale and design of phase I/II clinical trial
Burn-related injuries are a major global health issue, causing 180,000 deaths per year. Early debridement of necrotic tissue in association with a split-thickness skin graft is usually administered for some of... (Source: Trials)

The Role of Microsurgery in Burn Surgery
Acute burn reconstruction involves intricate strategies such as skin grafting and innovative technologies, addressing challenges in coverage and minimizing donor site morbidity. Despite being rarely used, flap reconstruction becomes necessary when critical structures are exposed, offering robust coverage and reducing complications. However, free flaps in acute burns face challenges, including a higher failure rate attributed to hyperinflammatory states and hypercoagulability. Surgical optimization strategies involve careful timing, patient preparation, and meticulous postoperative care. In delayed burn reconstruction, free...

NovoSorb ® Biodegradable Temporising Matrix (BTM): What we learned from the first 300 consecutive cases
CONCLUSION: Extensive complex wounds of different aetiologies unsuitable for immediate STSG can be successfully reconstructed by means of two-staged BTM application and subsequent skin grafting. Importantly, presence of wound contamination or infection and prior allograft coverage appear to jeopardise good BTM and STSG take.PMID:38547552 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjps.2024.02.065 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Evolutions in the use of Integra ® and MatriDerm® in excision and reconstruction of cutaneous malignancies
Surgical excision and reconstruction remain the mainstay of treatment for cutaneous skin cancers. In recent years, the use of acellular dermal matrices (ADMs) for reconstruction of wounds of varying aetiology has gained significant traction.1 They can be applied with ease, thus reducing operating times, lack donor site morbidity, and can be used in graftable or non-graftable beds to temporise the wound defect whilst waiting for confirmation of clear excision margins. Evidence regarding outcomes of different types of ADMs following skin cancer excision is limited. (Source: Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery)

Investigation of Two New Grafting Techniques for Dorsal Augmentation Rhinoplasty: An Experimental Study with New Zealand White Rabbits
ConclusionTendon autografts may be a good option for dorsal augmentation rhinoplasty as they are easily harvested and have minimal donor site morbidity. Dermis autograft usage is more advantageous than fascia usage in terms of accessibility and convenience. No Level AssignedThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each submission to which Evidence-Based Medicine rankings are applicable. A Graphene Composite Film Based Wearable Far-Infrared Therapy Apparatus (GRAFT) for Effective Prevention of Postoperative Peritoneal Adhesion
Adv Sci (Weinh). 2024 Mar 25:e2309330. doi: 10.1002/advs.202309330. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPostoperative peritoneal adhesion (PPA) is the most frequent complication after abdominal surgery. Current anti-adhesion strategies largely rely on the use of physical separating barriers creating an interface blocking peritoneal adhesion, which cannot reduce inflammation and suffers from limited anti-adhesion efficacy with unwanted side effects. Here, by exploiting the alternative activated macrophages to alleviate inflammation in adhesion development, a flexible graphene-composite-film (F-GCF) generating far-infrared (FIR) i...
