Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTrichotillomania (TTM) is an obsessive-compulsive disorder in which affected individuals recurrently pull-out hair from any region of the body, causing hair loss or alopecia. The management of TTM is a therapeutic challenge for dermatologists and consists of a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological alternatives. Cognitive-behavioral therapy has successfully been used to treat TTM. However, not all patients are willing to follow this treatment strategy. Unconventional support tools are propos...

Changes in the location of cutaneous melanoma over the past 30 years. A retrospective observational study
CONCLUSION: The increased incidence of head and neck melanomas in both sexes and the decrease in trunk melanomas in men can be attributed to the aging of our population. The reduction in the incidence of melanomas in the lower extremities in women could be associated with changes in photoexposure patterns. Analyzing the factors possibly associated with these changes would contribute to better understanding the pathogenesis of cutaneous melanoma for prevention purposes.PMID:38768807 | DOI:10.1016/j.ad.2024.04.021 (Source: Actas Dermo-Sifiliograficas)

Study of the impact of restrictions on access to biological drugs for the management of psoriasis on the Minimum Disease Activity criteria: subanalysis of AEDV EQUIDAD and AME projects
The objective of this study was to assess whether the level of restrictions in the access to new drugs for the management psoriasis was associated with the probability of achieving disease control measured using the Minimum Disease Activity (MDA) criteria. Therefore, we combined the results of 2 previous independent, cross-sectional studies: one that described the MDA in psoriasis by AC, and another that evaluated the level of restrictions to drug access by AC. We found that the higher the number of restrictions the lower the chances of achieving the MDA criteria (p = 0.013). Our results suggest that, in Spain, geographica...

The examination of these abnormalities is complex and sometimes challenging. However, familiarity with these disorders can significantly contribute to uncovering potential underlying conditions. This review includes the physiological nail changes seen within the first few months of life, such as Beau's lines, onychoschizia, koilonychia, congenital nail fold hypertrophy of the first digit, and onychocr...

Iberia consensus on strategies to prevent and manage irritation by topical retinoids in facial and trunk acne
CONCLUSIONS: Skin irritation caused by topical retinoids in facial and trunk acne is an expected, mild, and controllable reaction if proper prevention and management guidelines are followed, meaning that it should not be a reason for treatment discontinuation.PMID:38663728 | DOI:10.1016/j.ad.2024.03.032 (Source: Actas Dermo-Sifiliograficas)

Consensus document on the diagnostic algorithm for chronic nodular prurigo
Actas Dermosifiliogr. 2024 Apr 23:S0001-7310(24)00342-9. doi: 10.1016/j.ad.2024.03.035. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic nodular prurigo (CNP) is a chronic dermatological disease characterized by the presence of chronic pruritus and pruritic nodular lesions. The aim of this study was to reach consensus among a group of experts based on a non-systematic literature review and an algorithm for the clinical diagnosis of CNP. The resulting algorithm is structured in 3 blocks: 1) early identification of the patient with a possible diagnosis of CNP; 2) diagnosis and assessment of CNP; and 3) categorization of CNP (identifica...

Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSyphilis-the "great simulator" for classical venereologists-is re-emerging in Western countries despite adequate treatment; several contributing factors have been identified, including changes in sexual behaviour, which won't be the topic of this article though. In 2021, a total of 6613 new cases of syphilis were reported in Spain, representing an incidence of 13.9 x 100 000 inhabitants (90.5%, men). Rates have increased progressively since 2000. The clinical presentation of syphilis is heterogeneous. Altho...

AEDV expert recommendations on the management of suppurative sexually transmitted infections
Actas Dermosifiliogr. 2024 Apr 23:S0001-7310(24)00340-5. doi: 10.1016/j.ad.2024.03.034. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is increasing in Spain. Suppurative STIs are one of the most frequent reasons for consultation in specialized centers. The reason for suppurative STIs is multiple and their empirical treatment varies with the currently growing problem of antimicrobial resistance. Dermatologists are trained and prepared to treat these diseases, but their correct management requires active knowledge of national and international guidelines. The present document updates, ...
