Leukocyte-Mediated Tissue Injury in Ischemic Stroke.
Abstract Ischemic stroke remains a leading cause of death worldwide. While the underlying causes of stroke remain poorly defined, brain inflammation appears to be a characteristic response to the vascular insult and there is growing evidence suggesting a cause-effect relationship between the inflammatory response and stroke-induced brain dysfunction and tissue injury. Prognostic Value of Inflammatory and Cardiovascular Biomarkers for Prediction of 90-Day All-Cause Mortality after Acute Ischemic Stroke--Results from the Linz Stroke Unit Study Proteomics and Protein Markers
CONCLUSIONS: In this large cohort of patients with acute ischemic stroke, IL-6 and NT-proBNP at admission were strong and independent prognostic markers for 90-day all-cause mortality, and provided complementary prognostic information to the routinely used stroke severity score NIHSS.

Behavioral Effects Of 2,3-Dihydro- And Oxoisoaporphine Derivatives In Post Stroke-Depressive Like Behavior In Male Balb/C Mice.
In this study antidepressant-like effects of intra-cerebroventricularly administration of oxoisoaporphine derivatives in post stroke-depressive like behavior were examined through despair swimming and tail suspension models. For this aim, acute ischemic stroke was induced by bilateral common carotid arteries occlusion which significantly changed the normal behaviors of male balb/c mice. We performed stroke-induced anhedonia test as a key result of post stroke-depressive like behavior by determination of sucrose consumption. Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein Serum Levels Distinguish between Intracerebral Hemorrhage and Cerebral Ischemia in the Early Phase of Stroke Proteomics and Protein Markers
CONCLUSIONS: Serum GFAP was confirmed to be a biomarker indicating ICH in patients presenting with acute stroke symptoms. Very small ICH may be missed owing to less tissue destruction.
