Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Intracerebral Hemorrhagic Rats after Alcohol Consumption
Alcoholism is one of the risk factors for cerebrovascular diseases. Our previous study demonstrated that acute alcohol intoxication enhances brain injury and neurological impairment in rats suffering from intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). We plan to investigate the effect of chronic alcohol consumption (CAC) in rats with ICH by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Stroke and Coronary Artery Disease Are Associated With Parkinson's Disease.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggested that stroke and CAD are associated with PD in two Chinese population-based cohorts, indicating a probable vascular component in the pathogenesis of PD. PMID: 30001757 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Haemorrhagic stroke related to the use of 4-fluoroamphetamine
We report on two patients who presented with headache and mild hypertension after 4-FA use. Patient A developed one-sided weakness and decreased consciousness after a few hours. A computed tomography scan showed a left-sided intracerebral haemorrhage. Because of life-threatening cerebral herniation, haematoma evacuation was performed. Postoperatively, she suffered from a right-sided hemiparalysis and severe aphasia, requiring clinical rehabilitation. Patient B had a subarachnoid haemorrhage without neurological deficits. In total, 939 4-FA-intoxicated patients were registered. These patients used 4-FA alone (44%) or in com...

Infections and Risk of Peripartum Stroke During Delivery Admissions Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Infections present on admission increased stroke risk during delivery admissions in women with and without hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. The results were driven by genitourinary infections and sepsis. Infections may be an underrecognized precipitant of peripartum stroke.

Alkaline Phosphatase and Outcomes in Patients With Preserved Renal Function Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—In patients with preserved kidney function, ALP may be an independent predictor of all-cause mortality, stroke recurrence, composite end point, and poor functional outcome after stroke.

Mortality and Stroke Recurrence in a Rehabilitation Cohort of Patients with Cerebral Infarcts and Chagas Disease
Conclusions: Cardiac conditions did not correlate with mortality or recurrence. Age was a protective factor against recurrence, probably due to cumulative risk of IS over time, while initial mRS was associated with both outcomes. Treating diseases such as DM and bladder dysfunction, and early treatment to reduce the initial mRS could potentially prevent both outcomes; also, establishing a correct etiological diagnosis is important.Eur Neurol 2018;79:177 –184

Intracranial Arterial Calcification in Black Africans with Acute Ischaemic Stroke
Conclusions: The burden of IAC is very high among native African patients with AIS and preferentially involves proximal inflow arteries. Therefore, the role of large vessel atherosclerosis in ischaemic stroke in native Africans should be explored in future multinational, multimodality studies.Cerebrovasc Dis Extra 2018;8:26 –38

Patchouli Alcohol protects against Ischemia/Reperfusion-induced brain injury via inhibiting neuroinflammation in normal and obese mice.
In conclusion, we demonstrated for the first time that PA could protect against cerebral I/R injury not only in normal mice but also in obese mice via inhibiting inflammation, suggesting that PA can be a potential drug for clinical treatment of ischemic stroke.
