Risk factors for ischemic stroke and its subtypes in Chinese vs. Caucasians: Systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionOur study showed a lower prevalence of atrial fibrillation, ischemic heart disease and hypercholesterolemia in Chinese, and mostly similar risk factor associations in Chinese and Caucasian ischemic stroke patients. Further analyses of individual patient data to allow adjustment for confounders are needed to confirm and extend these findings.

Implications of Female Sex on Stroke Risk Factors, Care, Outcome and Rehabilitation: An Asian Perspective
Background: Stroke affects 16.9 million people annually and the greatest burden of stroke is in low- and middle-income countries, where 69% of all strokes occur. Stroke risk factors, mortality and outcomes differ in developing countries as compared to the developed world. We performed a literature review of 28 articles pertaining to epidemiology of stroke in Asian women, stroke risk factors, gender-related differences, and stroke outcomes. Summary: Asian women differ from women worldwide due to differences in stroke awareness, risk factor profile, stroke subtypes, and social issues that impact stroke care. While Asian men ...

An Unusual Cause Of Recurrent Ischemic Stroke: Trousseau's Syndrome From Gastric Cancer (P4.231)
CONCLUSIONS: Trousseau’s Syndrome must be considered in those presenting with recurrent strokes with an otherwise negative embolic work up especially in the elderly and those with cancer risk factors. It must prompt the clinician to look for an associated malignancy.Disclosure: Dr. JADEJA has nothing to disclose. Dr. Johnson has nothing to disclose. Dr. Soetanto has nothing to disclose. Seizure as the Presenting Symptom of ICH Patient Characteristics and EEG Utilization (P3.087)
Conclusions: Patients who presented with seizure were younger, black, and a higher proportion had a history of alcohol and substance abuse compared to patients with ICH who did not present with a seizure. Only 66[percnt] of those presenting with clinical seizure underwent EEG. Despite the prevalence of subclinical seizures in ICH patients, only 19[percnt] of patients who did not present with a seizure underwent EEG. Our study suggests that there may be room for improvement on the part of stroke neurologists in the diagnosis and management seizure of ICH patients.Disclosure: Dr. Gadpaille has nothing to disclose. The Longitudinal Relationship between Inflammatory Burden and Gait Speed is Influenced by White Matter Microstructural Characteristics: Secondary Analysis of the Health ABC Study. (I10-2A)
CONCLUSIONS: Sustained exposure to high IL-6 rather than the rate of change in IL-6 may adversely affect walking speed, potentially by influencing WM microstructural characteristics in older adults. Bilateral ascending weakness in a patient with Azygous Anterior Cerebral Artery Stroke. (P1.040)
CONCLUSION: Our patient’s clinical presentation was challenging because ascending pattern of weakness is usually seen in Acute Inflammatory Demyleinating Neuropathy or spinal cord injury. During the early stages deep tendon reflexes may be perserved in many conditions but may change on serial clinical examination. Hyperreflexia noted on follow-up examination and the absence of sensory involvemnt were the key feature suggesting a cerebral insult. Our study calls to attention to this rare vascular anomaly and its misleading clinical presentation.Disclosure: Dr. Melkumova has nothing to disclose. Dr. Noroozi has nothing...

Port Harcourt Stroke Registry: A Prospective Hospital Based Study. (P1.074)
CONCLUSION: This Stroke Registry, first of its kind from this region of Nigeria presents a handy tool to track the epidemiology of stroke in this region. It will contribute to stroke prevention by providing the evidence required to formulate policies and measures required to control identified risk factors.Disclosure: Dr. Okunoye has nothing to disclose. Clinical profile, risk factors, etiology and outcome of stroke in young Filipino adults. (P7.147)
Conclusion - Stroke occurs at a younger age in Filipinos compared to other Asian and European countries. The incidence of stroke in young Filipinos were similar to Asian figures but higher compared to European studies. Hypertension is the most common risk factor in the world followed by diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia. In Filipinos however, cultural vices such as smoking and alcoholism were the second and third leading risk factors. This paper to the best of our knowledge is the first to report the unique profile of stroke in young Filipino patients.Disclosure: Dr. Talamera has nothing to disclose. Dr. San Jose has noth...
