A Pilot Study of Application of the Stroke Riskometer Mobile App for Assessment of the Course and Clinical Outcomes of COVID-19 among Hospitalized Patients
Conclusions: High risk of stroke, physical inactivity, alcohol intake, high SBP, and atrial fibrillation are associated with severity and mortality of COVID-19. Our findings suggest that the Stroke Riskometer app could be used as a simple predictive tool of COVID-19 severity and mortality.

Sex differences and risk factors in recurrent ischemic stroke
ConclusionHypertension and dyslipidemia were significant risk factors of recurrent ischemic stroke in both genders. Smoking and alcohol drinking were significant risk factors associated with ischemic stroke recurrence in males. Therefore, smoking cessation and alcohol abstinence are recommended after the first stroke to prevent recurrent ischemic stroke especially for males. Diabetes was a significant risk factor of ischemic stroke recurrence in females. More extensive studies are needed to understand the causal relationship of each factors with ischemic stroke recurrence according to sex differences and specification of p...

Genetic loci, rs17817449 and rs6567160, known for obesity and the risk of stroke events among middle-aged and older Chinese people
ConclusionThe G allele of rs17817449 at the FTO, not rs6567160 at the MC4R, was associated with a decreased risk of fatal stroke occurrence; its functional role in stroke should be explored in relatively healthy middle-aged to older Chinese people.

Carotid Health in Patients with Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
Conclusion: This is the first study to our knowledge looking at carotid health in venous strokes. The relative risk for carotid atherosclerosis in CVT patients is higher and requires long-term follow-up for the initiation of preventive measures.

The Association of Proning and Stroke among Deeply Sedated Critically Ill SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Patients
Neurol Res Int. 2022 Jun 21;2022:6348888. doi: 10.1155/2022/6348888. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThere has been an increasing incidence of stroke cases among SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) patients who were deeply sedated and underwent proning positioning. We reviewed the association of proning and sedations used to the development of stroke, including demographic profiles of patients with COVID-19 infection in the critical care unit. There was a significant association seen among COVID-19 patients in the ICU who underwent proning to the development of stroke, with up to 15 times risk of having stroke (p value = 0.007) than those who ...
