AMPK negatively regulates RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation by controlling oxidative stress
This study aimed to clarify the mechanistic connection between AMPK and osteoclast differentiation, and the potential role of AMPK in the anti-resorptive effects of several phytochemicals. We found that receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast differentiation, osteoclastic gene expression, and activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and NF-κB were promoted in cells transfected with AMPK siRNA. AMPK knockdown led to defective synthesis of heme oxygenase-1, an antioxidant enzyme, and the upstream mediator, nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2. Furthermore, ...

Involvement of the JNK/HO ‑1/FTH1 signaling pathway in nanoplastic‑induced inflammation and ferroptosis of BV2 microglia cells
In conclusion, NPs could induce inflammatory responses and ferroptosis in BV2 cells. JNK/HO‑1 mediated ferroptosis may serve an important role in the toxicity of microglia induced by NPs. This study provided novel evidence for the toxic effects of NPs and highlighted a theoretical mechanistic basis for safe prevention and treatment of plastic pollution‑induced neurotoxicity.PMID:37264973 | DOI:10.3892/ijmm.2023.5264

Di (2-ethyl) hexyl phthalate induces liver injury in chickens by regulating PTEN/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway via reactive oxygen species
Comp Biochem Physiol C Toxicol Pharmacol. 2023 Aug;270:109639. doi: 10.1016/j.cbpc.2023.109639. Epub 2023 Apr 30.ABSTRACTDi (2-ethyl) hexyl phthalate (DEHP) is a common environmental endocrine disruptor that induces oxidative stress, posing a significant threat to human and animal health. Oxidative stress can activate the PTEN/PI3K/AKT pathway, which is closely related to cell apoptosis. However, it is unclear whether DEHP induces apoptosis of chicken liver cells by regulating the PTEN/PI3K/AKT pathway through oxidative stress. In this experiment, male laying hens were continuously exposed to 400 mg/kg, 800 mg/kg, and 1600...

Multifunctional hydrogel wound dressing with rapid on-demand degradation property based on aliphatic polycarbonate and chitosan
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 May 30:125138. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.125138. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe multifunctional hydrogel dressings are effective strategy to treat chronic wounds of diabetes. In addition, the ability of selective degradation on demand to change dressings could provide better patient compliance. Here, an injectable, self-healing hydrogel with rapid degradability on-demand is designed to promote the healing of diabetes wounds. The block copolymer formed by aldehyde modified aliphatic cyclic carbonate monomer with polyethylene glycol (MBP) and chitosan (CS) were crosslinked through the Schiff b...

LINC00938 alleviates hypoxia ischemia encephalopathy induced neonatal brain injury by regulating oxidative stress and inhibiting JNK/p38 MAPK signaling pathway
Exp Neurol. 2023 May 29:114449. doi: 10.1016/j.expneurol.2023.114449. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is an important factor leading to permanent damage of central nervous system (CNS) and even neonatal death. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) has been shown to get involved in the pathogenesis of nervous system diseases. LINC00938 is an intergenic lncRNA which is reported to be involved in neurodegenerative disease. However, the potential role of LINC00938 in nerve injury of neonatal HIE is undetermined. Here, we found that the expression of LINC00938 in the whole blood of neonates with HIE...
