Dipeptidyl-peptidase-4 inhibitors have anti-inflammatory effects in patients with type 2 diabetes
ConclusionThis meta-analysis demonstrated that DPP-4 inhibitors can significantly attenuate low-grade inflammatory state in patients with T2DM. In addition to improving glycemic control, DDP-4 inhibitors might offer extra therapeutic value by controlling inflammation.Graphical Abstract

Impact of tofogliflozin on hepatic outcomes: a systematic review
ConclusionOverall, an improvement in levels of hepatic parameters was observed in T2DM patients with concurrent liver disorders. However, a large number of clinical trials are needed to prove the efficacy of tofogliflozin on hepatic outcomes in patients with T2DM.

Research Progress of Metformin in the Treatment of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Endocrinology. 2023 Sep 20:bqad139. doi: 10.1210/endocr/bqad139. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common malignancies with high mortality, posing a great threat to both human physical and mental health. With the advancement of scientific research, a variety of cancer therapies have been used for OSCC treatment. However, the prognosis of OSCC shows no significant improvement. Metformin has been recognized as the first-line drug for the treatment of diabetes, and recent studies have shown that metformin has a remarkable suppressive effect on tumor progression. Metformin can...

Inhibition of STIM1 alleviates high glucose-induced proliferation and fibrosis by inducing autophagy in mesangial cells
In this study, we investigated the role of STIM1 in the proliferation and fibrosis in high glucose (HG)-induced HBZY-1 cells. We found that the expression of STIM1 was increased in renal tissues of diabetic rat and HBZY-1 cells stimulated by HG. Downregulation of STIM1-mediated SOCE suppressed hyperglycemic cell proliferation and fibrosis by activating autophagy. In addition, the inhibitory effect of downregulating STIM1 on cells was blocked by autophagy inhibitor Bafilomycin A1 (BafA1). Moreover, this experiment also showed that STIM1 regulated autophagy, cell proliferation and fibrosis via PI3K/AKT/mTOR signal pathway. T...

Fetal Exposure to Preeclampsia and Later Risk of Cardiometabolic Disorders: A Population-Based Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Fetal preeclampsia exposure was associated with adult life hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia, but these associations were likely due to shared etiological factors, rather than exposure to the preeclamptic condition itself.PMID:37737002 | DOI:10.1161/HYPERTENSIONAHA.122.20682

Antenatal corticosteroids in specific groups at risk of preterm birth: a systematic review
Conclusions There is a paucity of evidence on ACS for women who have diabetes. ACS therapy may have benefits in women with chorioamnionitis and is probably beneficial in FGR. There is limited direct trial evidence on ACS efficacy in women undergoing planned CS in the late preterm period, though the totality of evidence suggests it is probably beneficial. A Systematic Review of Methodologies Used in Models of the Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus
ConclusionsModels developed in the past 12 years for health economic evaluations of diabetes treatments are of high-quality and make use of advanced methods. However, further developments are needed to improve the statistical modelling component of cost-effectiveness models and to provide better assessment of structural uncertainty.

Mucormycosis: update on clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment
Curr Opin Infect Dis. 2023 Sep 22. doi: 10.1097/QCO.0000000000000976. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: Mucormycosis (MCR) is a common opportunistic mold infection, and Mucorales were recently designated by WHO as priority pathogens. The interest in this infection has risen significantly since the major outbreak of MCR in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in India. Herein, we summarize recently (last 24 months) published information regarding clinical aspects of MCR.RECENT FINDINGS: The disease remains protean in its clinical presentation, difficult to diagnose, and challenging to treat. In ...

A population-based study on hyperinsulinaemia and arterial stiffness in men with and without abdominal aortic aneurysm
CONCLUSION: In this population-based study hyperinsulinaemia as a marker of insulin resistance, but not hyperglycaemia or aortic stiffness, was associated with AAA and abdominal aortic diameter in 65-year-old men.PMID:37731907 | PMC:PMC10508446 | DOI:10.1097/XCE.0000000000000290

The effect of type 2 diabetes and diabetic peripheral neuropathy on predictive grip force control
This study investigated the impact of type 2 diabetes and diabetic peripheral neuropathy on grip force control during object manipulation. The study included three age-matched groups: type 2 diabetes alone (n = 11), type 2 diabetes with neuropathy (n = 13), and healthy controls (n = 12). Grip force control variables derived from lifting and holding an experimental cup were the ratio between grip force and load forces during lifting (GFR), latency 1 and latency 2, which represented the time between the object's grip and its lift-off from the table, and the period between object's lift-off and the grip force peak, respective...

Relationship Between Standardized Measures of Chronic Kidney Disease-associated Pruritus Intensity and Health-related Quality of Life Measured with the EQ-5D Questionnaire: A Mapping Study
Acta Derm Venereol. 2023 Sep 20;103:adv11604. doi: 10.2340/actadv.v103.11604.ABSTRACTChronic kidney disease-associated pruritus is linked with decreased health-related quality of life assessed using disease-specific instruments. The extent to which worsening pruritus reduces generic quality of life assessed using the EQ-5D instrument is unknown. Prevalent kidney failure patients receiving in-centre haemodialysis from 5 centres completed the EQ-5D-5L quality of life measure, worst Itching Intensity Numerical Rating Scale and 5-D itch pruritus instruments. Latent class models were used to identify clusters of patients with s...
