Long-term benefits of EPs ® 7630 in patients with acute sinusitis: a real-world cohort study
Conclusion: EPs® 7630 prescription is associated with long-term benefits in AS patients. EPs® 7630 can help to reduce inappropriate antibiotic use and might reduce the risk of chronic sinusitis or nasal polyps. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Can an educational video improve the adequacy of bowel preparation for patients undergoing their first colonoscopy? Results of the EBOPS RCT
Conclusions An educational video leads to improved bowel preparation for patients attending for their first colonoscopy, and is also associated with greater detection of polyps. Widespread adoption of an educational video incurs minimal investment, but would reduce the number of inadequate procedures, missed pathology, and the cost that both these incur. Type 2 and Non-type 2 Inflammation in the Upper Airways: Cellular and Molecular Alterations in Olfactory Neuroepithelium Cell Populations
AbstractPurpose of ReviewNeurogenesis occurring in the olfactory epithelium is critical to continuously replace olfactory neurons to maintain olfactory function, but is impaired during chronic type 2 and non-type 2 inflammation of the upper airways. In this review, we describe the neurobiology of olfaction and the olfactory alterations in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (type 2 inflammation) and post-viral acute rhinosinusitis (non-type 2 inflammation), highlighting the role of immune response attenuating olfactory neurogenesis as a possibly mechanism for the loss of smell in these diseases.Recent FindingsSeveral ...

Progress report: Peutz –Jeghers syndrome
AbstractPeutz –Jeghers syndrome is a rare, autosomal dominant polyposis syndrome. Presenting with a remarkable phenotype including development of characteristic gastrointestinal polyps, mucocutaneous pigmentations, and an increased risk of cancer, the syndrome has been subject to many studies concerning the nat ural course of disease. In most patients, pathogenic germline variants are detected in theSTK11 gene including cases of mosaicism and structural variants. Yet, studies assessing the effect of surveillance, understanding of cancer development, as well as clinical studies evaluating chemoprevention are lacking. In a...

A Review on Novel Therapeutic Modalities and Evidence-based Drug Treatments Against Allergic Rhinitis
Curr Pharm Des. 2024 Mar 14. doi: 10.2174/0113816128295952240306072100. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAllergic rhinitis (AR) is an IgE-mediated atopic disease that occurs due to inhaled antigens in the immediate phase. Misdiagnosis, insufficient treatment, or no treatment at all are frequent problems associated with the widespread condition known as chronic allergic rhinitis. AR symptoms include runny, itchy, stuffy, and sneezing noses. Asthma and nasal polyps, for example, sometimes occur simultaneously in patients. In order for people living with AR to be as comfortable and productive as possible, treatment should center...

Prevalence and predictors of depression and anxiety in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion A significant proportion of people with CRS have symptoms of depression and anxiety, and early screening for depression and anxiety in people with CRS is critical. And, more attention needs to be given to females and patients with CRSsNP during screening. PROSPERO registration number CRD42022345959). (Source: BMJ Open)

Paris classification of colonic polyps using CT colonography: prospective cohort study of interobserver variation
ConclusionRadiologist agreement when using the Paris classification at CT colonography is low, and radiologist classification agrees poorly with colonoscopy. Using the full Paris classification in routine CTC reporting is of questionable value.Clinical relevance statementInterobserver agreement for radiologists using the Paris classification to categorise colorectal polyp morphology is only fair; routine use of the full Paris classification at CT colonography is questionable.Key Points• Overall interobserver agreement for the Paris classification at CT colonography (CTC) was only fair, and lower than for colonoscopy.• ...
