A Clinicopathological Study of Aural Polyps: A Retrospective Analysis in a Tertiary Care Hospital
Conclusion A thorough detailed examination and mastoid exploration with radiological and histopathological evaluation is mandatory for better defining the definitive treatment. Utmost care and meticulousness are advised for the surgeons while dealing with aural polyps to avoid any complications. [...] Thieme Revinter Publicações Ltda. Evaluation of EGFR and COX pathway inhibition in human colon organoids of serrated polyposis and other hereditary cancer syndromes
This study examined effects of EGFR and COX pathway inhibition in organoid cultures derived from uninvolved colon and polyps of SPS patients. We also compared with organoids representing the hereditary gastrointestinal syndromes, Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) and Lynch syndrome (LS). Eighteen total organoid colon cultures were generated from uninvolved colon and polyps in SPS, FAP, LS, and non-syndromic screening colonoscopy patients.BRAF andKRAS mutation status was determined for each culture. Erlotinib (EGFR inhibitor) and sulindac (COX inhibitor) were applied individually and in combination. A 44-target gene cust...

Intranasal delivery of low-dose anti-CD124 antibody enhances treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps
Biomaterials. 2024 Apr 6;308:122567. doi: 10.1016/j.biomaterials.2024.122567. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFrequent injections of anti-CD124 monoclonal antibody (αCD124) over long periods of time are used to treat chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). Needle-free, intranasal administration (i.n.) of αCD124 is expected to provide advantages of localized delivery, improved efficacy, and enhanced medication adherence. However, delivery barriers such as the mucus and epithelium in the nasal tissue impede penetration of αCD124. Herein, two novel protamine nanoconstructs: allyl glycidyl ether conjugated protamin...

Importance of aspirin challenges in patients with NSAID-exacerbated respiratory disease
CONCLUSION: ASA challenges have high sensitivity and specificity. In clinical ASA challenge studies, there is a high concordance between a positive history of NSAID hypersensitivity obtained by rhinologists and the measured data of ASA challenge in patients with CRSwNP and comorbid asthma. Therefore, ASA challenge is primarily indicated in patients with an unclear history of NSAID hypersensitivity.PMID:38597968 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-024-01460-9 (Source: HNO)

Identification of neutrophils and eosinophils in upper airway mucosa with immunofluorescence multiplex image cytometry
AbstractCharacterization of inflammation in chronic rhinosinusitis with (CRSwNP) and without nasal polyps (CRSsNP) is an ongoing research process. To overcome limitations of current cytologic techniques, we investigated whether immunofluorescence multiplex image cytometry could quantify intact neutrophils, eosinophils, and other immune cells in solid upper airway mucosa. We used a four-channel immunofluorescence-microscopy technique for the simultaneous detection of the leukocyte marker CD45, the neutrophil marker myeloperoxidase, two eosinophil markers, i.e., major basic protein and eosinophil peroxidase, and DAPI (4 ′,...

Unrestricted vs 3-day low-residue diet for colonoscopy preparation. Results of a feasibility randomized trial
CONCLUSIONS: It is feasible to test the impact of an unrestricted diet for adequate bowel preparation. Comparable cleansing results were achieved, but the unrestricted diet showed better tolerability.PMID:38591600 | DOI:10.17235/reed.2024.10417/2024 (Source: Revista Espanola de Enfermedades Digestivas)
