A combined cross-sectional analysis and case-control study evaluating tick-borne encephalitis vaccination coverage, disease and vaccine effectiveness in children and adolescents, Switzerland, 2005 to 2022
ConclusionsEven children younger than 5 years can experience severe TBE. Incomplete and complete vaccination protect against neurological manifestations of the disease. Complete vaccination offers durable protection up to 10 years against TBE.PMID:38699900 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2024.29.18.2300558 (Source: Euro Surveill)

Severe heart failure and intracardiac thrombosis: going beyond the appearance for diagnosis and treatments
We describe the case of a 45-year-old female affected by asthma and nasal polyposis who presented to the emergency department because of worsening dyspnea and paresthesia of the left lower limb. Comprehensive instrumental examinations revealed the presence of severe left ventricle dysfunction, intra-cardiac thrombus, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, lung infiltrates, polyserositis, and neurological involvements. Finally, the patient was diagnosed with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), formerly Churg-Strauss syndrome, a rare vasculitis of small-medium blood vessels with several organ involvement...

Validation of a Simplified Model for Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in Mice
CONCLUSIONS: This simplified model of SAH elicits pathological changes consistent with those described for more complex models in the literature. Therefore, it can be used in future preclinical studies examining the pathophysiology of SAH and novel treatment options.PMID:38701138 | DOI:10.3233/CH-231997 (Source: Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation)

Emerging evidence of context-dependent synapse elimination by phagocytes in the CNS
J Leukoc Biol. 2024 May 3:qiae098. doi: 10.1093/jleuko/qiae098. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrecise synapse elimination is essential for the establishment of a fully developed neural circuit during brain development and higher function in adult brain. Beyond immune and nutrition support, recent groundbreaking studies have revealed that phagocytic microglia and astrocytes can actively and selectively eliminate synapses in normal and diseased brains, thereby mediating synapse loss and maintaining circuit homeostasis. Multiple lines of evidence indicate that the mechanisms of synapse elimination by phagocytic glia are not u...

Prognostic biomarker NRG2 correlates with autophagy and epithelial ‑mesenchymal transition in breast cancer
Oncol Lett. 2024 Apr 23;27(6):277. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14410. eCollection 2024 Jun.ABSTRACTBreast cancer (BRCA) is a leading cause of death in women worldwide, accounting for 31% of female cancer. Autophagy plays a crucial role in cancer progression, however, the function of autophagy-related gene neuroregulatory protein 2 (NRG2) in BRCA and its underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. In the present study, the expression of the NRG2 gene in BRCA was significantly down-regulated compared with the normal controls. The low expression level of NRG2 was related to poor survival rate of BRCA. The receiver operating char...

Comparison of Guillain-Barre Syndrome Cases during and Prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Multicentric Study
DISCUSSION: The number of GBS hospital admissions, clinical presentation, electrodiagnostic features, and short-term outcomes did not differ significantly between the prepandemic and postpandemic periods; a slightly higher incidence of in-hospital complications was observed during the pandemic period. A Prospective Observational Study of Autoimmune Encephalitis in Northwestern India
CONCLUSION: Autoimmune encephalitis (AIE), a potentially treatable immune-responsive entity, is a common neurological problem and may be an answer to a large number of cases having unexplained encephalitis. Good clinical acumen and knowledge are required for early diagnosis and treatment of this potentially reversible disorder. How to cite this article: Sharma B, Paul M, Bagaria AK. Effect of Rotenone on the Neurodegeneration among Different Models
Curr Drug Targets. 2024 May 2. doi: 10.2174/0113894501281496231226070459. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRotenone is a naturally occurring plant product used as an insecticide, pesticide and piscicide. It is lipophilic in nature and can cross the blood-brain barrier and induce the degeneration of neurons. It inhibits the mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I and stops the transfer of electrons. It induces ROS generation, which impairs mitochondrial activity. Rotenone is a toxic agent which causes the death of neurons. The present review describes the effect of rotenone on neurodegeneration with an emphasis on behavioral...
