The spatial extent of tauopathy on [18F]MK-6240 tau PET shows stronger association with cognitive performances than the standard uptake value ratio in Alzheimer ’s disease
ConclusionsQuantifying [18F]MK-6240 tau PET in terms of EOT rather than SUVr significantly increases the correlation with cognitive performances. Quantification in the mesiotemporal lobe is the most useful to diagnose preclinical AD or prodromal AD. (Source: European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging)

Therapeutic progress and future prospects of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy
AbstractChronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is a rare and heterogeneous but treatable immune-mediated neuropathy. The pathogenesis of CIDP is complex interplay of diverse immune mechanisms involving cellular and humoral pathways. The European Academy of Neurology/Peripheral Nerve Society guidelines were reissued in 2021, and the classification and diagnostic criteria were changed. Treatments include immunoglobulin, steroid, and plasmapheresis are effective, including remission induction and maintenance therapy. Maintenance treatments are often required for years, and treatment regimens require ...

Can We Adopt Pediatric Palliative Care that is Indivisible with Equity for all?
In this volume of The Journal, two retrospective cohort studies, both based in Ohio, provide insightful data about the deployment of dedicated pediatric palliative care teams. While home-based visits have been a longtime core principle of pediatric hospice care, their value has not been well defined or justified. Thus, Smith et al analyzed healthcare utilization outcomes in a sample of children who received home visits across two well-established pediatric home-based palliative care and hospice programs over 6 years among 195 children, half of whom had neurologic impairment. Abnormal levels of DA and UA can lead to multiple diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease and gout. In this work, a three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide–MXene (3D rGO-Ti3C2) composite el...

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 530: Mutations in NSUN3, a Mitochondrial Methyl Transferase Gene, Cause Inherited Optic Neuropathy
In conclusion, pathogenic variants in NSUN3 can cause optic neuropathy. Trio whole-exome sequencing should be considered as a diagnostic strategy in ION cases where standard diagnostic analysis does not reveal disease-causing variants. (Source: Genes)

Consciousness Ain ’t All That
AbstractMost philosophers think that phenomenal consciousness underlies, or at any rate makes a large contribution, to moral considerability. This paper argues that many such accounts invoke question-begging arguments. Moreover, they ’re unable to explain apparent differences in moral status across and within different species. In the light of these problems, I argue that we ought to take very seriously a view according to which moral considerability is grounded in functional properties. Phenomenal consciousness may be suffici ent for having a moral value, but it may not be necessary, and it may contribute relatively lit...
