E-selectin is associated with stable angina and myocardial infarction in a sample of Kurdish population
This study was conducted on 200 participants who were admitted to the surgical specialty hospital-cardiac center in Erbil City, Iraq between October 2021 and May 2022. Based on the outcomes of the clinical examination, laboratory tests, coronary angiography (COA), acute myocardial infarction (MI) type ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), stable angina pectoris (SAP), and healthy control groups were tested. Each sample was subjected to Sanger sequencing. The polymorphism was significantly linked to stable angina and myocardial infarction Genotype CC was higher in SAP when compared with MI and control groups which was...

Early and Long-Term Results of Simultaneous and Staged Revascularization of Coronary and Carotid Arteries
CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed no significant difference in the impact of simultaneous CABG + CEA or staged CABG/CEA on the incidence of death, stroke, MI, and MACEs over a 30-day and long-term follow-up period. Although the immediate results indicated an increased risk of a complicated course (attributable to overall complications) and more prolonged ventilation after simultaneous CABG + CEA compared with staged CABG/CEA, this did not lead to an increase in fatal complications. Therefore, the implementation of either tactic is considered eligible and appropriate following a thorough operative risk assessment.PMID:386514...

Economic and healthcare resource utilization assessments of pet imaging in coronary artery disease diagnosis: a systematic review and discussion of opportunities for future economic evaluations
Conclusions: This SLR identified economic and HCRU evaluations following PET- and SPECT-MPI for CAD diagnosis and determined that existing studies do not capture all pertinent outcome parameters or link diagnostic performance to downstream HCRU and cardiac outcomes, thus, resulting in simplified assessments of CAD burden. A limitation of this work relates to heterogeneity in study designs, patient populations, and follow-up times of existing studies. Resultingly, it was challenging to pool data in meta-analyses. Overall, this work provides a foundation for the development of comprehensive economic models for PET- and SPECT...

Selective binding of cationic fibrinogen-mimicking chitosan nanoparticles to activated platelets and efficient drug release for antithrombotic therapy
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Apr 21:131742. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131742. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThrombosis is the main cause of catastrophic events including ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction and pulmonary embolism. Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) therapy offers a desirable approach to antithrombosis through a reduction of platelet reactivity. However, major bleeding complications, severe off-target side effects, and resistance or nonresponse to ASA greatly attenuate its clinical outcomes. Herein, we report a cationic fibrinogen-mimicking nanoparticle, denoted as ASA-RGD-CS@TPP, to achieve activated-platelet-ta...

Explore the effect of apparent temperature and air pollutants on the admission rate of acute myocardial infarction in Chongqing, China: a time-series study
Conclusion The occurrence of decreased apparent temperature levels was discovered to be linked with a heightened relative risk of hospitalisations for AMI. PM2.5 and NO2 have an effect modification on the association between apparent temperature and admission rate of AMI. (Source: BMJ Open)

Continued decline in the incidence of myocardial infarction beyond the COVID-19 pandemic: a nationwide study of the Swedish population aged 60 and older during 2015 –2022
This study aims to shed light on the seemingly paradoxical relationship between COVID-19 and myocardial infarction occurrence on the population level by exploring long-term trends in incidence rates, case fatality, and proportion of patients dying before reaching a hospital. Our work is based on a linkage of administrative registers covering the entire population aged 60  + in Sweden. Considering both long-term trends since 2015 and seasonal variability, we compared observed incidence, case fatality, and proportions of patients hospitalized to expected values during 2020–2022. Despite more than 200 laboratory-confirm...

Heart pump increases survival in STEMI-related cardiogenic shock
Nature Reviews Cardiology, Published online: 23 April 2024; doi:10.1038/s41569-024-01035-9Data from the DanGer Shock trial demonstrate that implantation of a microaxial flow pump in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock increases the survival rate compared with standard care alone.
