Associations of Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D and Vitamin D Receptor Polymorphisms with Risks of Cardiovascular Disease and Mortality among Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease: A Prospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: Higher serum 25(OH)D concentrations were significantly associated with lower risks of total and subtypes of CVD incidence and mortality among individuals with CKD. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining adequate vitamin D status in the prevention of CVD and mortality in patients with CKD.PMID:38608754 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2024.04.001 (Source: Am J Clin Nutr)

Cardiovascular risk and inflammation in a population with autoimmune diseases: a narrative review
Front Immunol. 2024 Mar 28;15:1380372. doi: 10.3389/fimmu.2024.1380372. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTJuvenile Systemic Connective Tissue Diseases (JSCTD) are a heterogeneous group of chronic autoimmune diseases, associated with dyslipidemia and increased cardiovascular risk are related. Studies from the last 10 years, from 2013 to 2022, on lipid profiles in JSCTD were collected. Different studies on lipid profiles in children affected by JSCTD were selected, because the aim is to analyze the cardiovascular risk and the possibility of atherosclerosis in these patients in whom, sometimes, corticosteroid therapies and immunosuppr...

Effect of Cardiac Rehabilitation Nursing on Patients with Myocardial Infarction
CONCLUSION: For patients with myocardial infarction, the implementation of cardiac rehabilitation nursing can effectively alleviate the anxiety and depression of patients, decrease the incidence of complications as well as inflammatory factors levels, and further shorten the hospital stay of patients, with high safety. Our study provides a clinical reference for patients with myocardial infarction w who need nursing care.PMID:38607218 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Troponin Elevation in Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Hepatic Perfusion for Metastatic Uveal Melanoma
CONCLUSION: Percutaneous Hepatic Perfusion is safe and associated with a transient, asymptomatic troponin elevation peri-operatively without major adverse cardiac events at 90 days. The observed troponin elevation is likely secondary to coronary demand-supply mismatch related to procedural hemodynamic shifts, hypotension, and anemia.PMID:38605434 | DOI:10.1177/10732748241246898 (Source: Cancer Control)

Concurrent myocardial infarction in the setting of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura secondary to systemic lupus erythematosus: A case report
Key Clinical MessageIn acute thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), apart from urgent treatment, assessing the patient's medical history, especially conditions like systemic lupus erythematosus that could trigger TTP, is crucial. Rarely, TTP patients may experience cardiac conditions as severe as a myocardial infarction.AbstractA 45-year-old woman manifested severe and acute thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) of unknown origin. The patient's symptoms, the laboratory data, the detection of the reduction in ADAMTS13 activity, and the presence of schistocytes on the peripheral smear confirmed the diagnosis. The pat...

Epidemiology, Etiology, and Pathophysiology of Pulmonary Embolism
Int J Angiol DOI: 10.1055/s-0044-1785487Over the last 20 years, there has been a progressive increase in the incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE) diagnosis in the United States, Europe, and Australia. Increased use of computed tomography pulmonary angiography has likely contributed in part to this rising incidence. However, it is pertinent to note that the burden of comorbidities associated with PE, such as malignancy, obesity, and advanced age, has also increased over the past 20 years. Time-trend analysis in North American, European, and Asian populations suggests that mortality rates associated with PE have been declini...

Medication persistence and its impact on type 2 diabetes
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings show low persistence among patients with T2D and emphasize the importance of medication persistence, which is associated with cost savings and lower risk of hospitalizations.PMID:38603538 | DOI:10.37765/ajmc.2024.89534 (Source: The American Journal of Managed Care)
