Neutrophil Extracellular Traps in Cardiovascular and Aortic Disease: A Narrative Review on Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Targeting
Int J Mol Sci. 2024 Apr 3;25(7):3983. doi: 10.3390/ijms25073983.ABSTRACTNeutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), composed of DNA, histones, and antimicrobial proteins, are released by neutrophils in response to pathogens but are also recognized for their involvement in a range of pathological processes, including autoimmune diseases, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. This review explores the intricate roles of NETs in different cardiovascular conditions such as thrombosis, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, COVID-19, and particularly in the pathogenesis of abdominal aortic aneurysms. We elucidate the mechanisms under...

Prevalence and risk evaluation of cardiovascular disease in the newly diagnosed prostate cancer population in China: A nationwide, multi-center, population-based cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Prostate cancer patients in China are diagnosed at an advanced stage. A heavy CVD burden was present at the initiation of treatment. Patients who accepted ADT-related therapy showed an original higher risk of CVD, but the awareness of cardiovascular protection was far from sufficient.PMID:38613214 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000003087 (Source: Chinese Medical Journal)

AMPA receptor inhibition alleviates inflammatory response and myocardial apoptosis after myocardial infarction by inhibiting TLR4/NF- κB signaling pathway
This study investigated the role of AMPA receptor inhibition in myocardial infarction and elucidated the underlying mechanisms. This study established a myocardial infarction model by ligating the left anterior descending branch of the coronary artery in Sprague-Dawley rats. The findings suggested that injecting the AMPA receptor antagonist NBQX into myocardial infarction rats effectively alleviated cardiac inflammation, myocardial necrosis, and apoptosis and improved their cardiac contractile function. Conversely, injecting the AMPA receptor agonist CX546 into infarcted rats exacerbated the symptoms and tissue damage, as ...

Chemokine Fractalkine and Non-Obstructive Coronary Artery Disease-Is There a Link?
Int J Mol Sci. 2024 Mar 30;25(7):3885. doi: 10.3390/ijms25073885.ABSTRACTNon-obstructive coronary artery disease (NO-CAD) constitutes a heterogeneous group of conditions collectively characterized by less than 50% narrowing in at least one major coronary artery with a fractional flow reserve (FFR) of ≤0.80 observed in coronary angiography. The pathogenesis and progression of NO-CAD are still not fully understood, however, inflammatory processes, particularly atherosclerosis and microvascular dysfunction are known to play a major role in it. Chemokine fractalkine (FKN/CX3CL1) is inherently linked to these processes. FKN/C...

Intravenous antiplatelet therapy in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention
AbstractThe use of intravenous antiplatelet therapy during primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) is not fully standardized. The aim is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of periprocedural intravenous administration of cangrelor or tirofiban in a contemporary ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) population undergoing PPCI. This was a multicenter prospective cohort study including consecutive STEMI patients who received cangrelor or tirofiban during PPCI at seven Italian centers. The primary effectiveness measure was the angiographic evidence of thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) flo...

Effect of Cardiac Rehabilitation Nursing on Patients with Myocardial Infarction
CONCLUSION: For patients with myocardial infarction, the implementation of cardiac rehabilitation nursing can effectively alleviate the anxiety and depression of patients, decrease the incidence of complications as well as inflammatory factors levels, and further shorten the hospital stay of patients, with high safety. Our study provides a clinical reference for patients with myocardial infarction w who need nursing care.PMID:38607218 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Associations of Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D and Vitamin D Receptor Polymorphisms with Risks of Cardiovascular Disease and Mortality among Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease: A Prospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: Higher serum 25(OH)D concentrations were significantly associated with lower risks of total and subtypes of CVD incidence and mortality among individuals with CKD. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining adequate vitamin D status in the prevention of CVD and mortality in patients with CKD.PMID:38608754 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2024.04.001 (Source: The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)
