Dabrafenib mitigates the neuroinflammation caused by ferroptosis in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis by up regulating Axl receptor
In this study, we preliminarily studied the possible mechanism of dabrafenib in the treatment of multiple sclerosis from the perspective of ferroptosis. First, we observed that dabrafenib significantly improved symptoms of gait abnormalities, limb weakness or paralysis, and down-regulated levels of spinal cord inflammation in an experimental autoimmune encephalitis (EAE) model. Meanwhile, we also observed that dabrafenib could inhibit the proteins of ferroptosis in spinal cord tissue of EAE mice by western blot. The results of immunohistochemical analysis showed that the effect of dabrafenib on ferroptosis mainly occurred ...

Japanese encephalitis virus E protein domain III immunization mediates cross-protection against Zika virus in mice via antibodies and CD8 < sup > + < /sup > T cells
Virus Res. 2024 Apr 19:199376. doi: 10.1016/j.virusres.2024.199376. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTZika virus (ZIKV) and Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) are antigenically related flaviviruses that co-circulate in many countries/territories. The interaction between the two viruses needs to be determined. Recent findings by ourselves and other labs showed that JEV-elicited antibodies (Abs) and CD8+ T cells exacerbate and protect against subsequent ZIKV infection, respectively. However, the impact of JEV envelope (E) protein domain III (EDIII)-induced immune responses on ZIKV infection is unclear. We show here that sera from...

Autoimmune encephalitis: what the radiologist needs to know
AbstractAutoimmune encephalitis is a relatively novel nosological entity characterized by an immune-mediated damage of the central nervous system. While originally described as a paraneoplastic inflammatory phenomenon affecting limbic structures, numerous instances of non-paraneoplastic pathogenesis, as well as extra-limbic involvement, have been characterized. Given the wide spectrum of insidious clinical presentations ranging from cognitive impairment to psychiatric symptoms or seizures, it is crucial to raise awareness about this disease category. In fact, an early diagnosis can be dramatically beneficial for the progno...

Prevalence of viral agents causing swine reproductive failure in Korea and the development of multiplex real-time PCR and RT-PCR assays
This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of viral agents causing reproductive failure in pigs in Korea. In addition, two types of multiplex real-time PCR (mqPCR) were developed for the simultaneous detection of Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV) and porcine parvovirus (PPV) in mqPCR and encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) and Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) in reverse transcription mqPCR (mRT-qPCR). A total of 150 aborted fetus samples collected from 2020 to 2022 were analyzed. Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus was the most prevalent (49/150 32.7%), followed by porcine circovirus type 2 (31/150, 20.7%),...

Palliating Undifferentiated Encephalopathy in Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease vs. Autoimmune Encephalitis
1. Utilizing a case based approach, learners will be able to describe the pathophysiology of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) and autoimmune encephalitis (AE) that predicts the challenges of managing delirium and agitation.2. Learners will be able to recognize the nuances of undifferentiated encephalopathy in order to mitigate potential harms of an indiscriminate approach to neurocognitive palliation with potent dopaminergic antagonists and consider a more sophisticated approach with second generation antipsychotics possessing less dopaminergic antagonism. Dengue encephalitis: A rare manifestation of dengue fever
J Vector Borne Dis. 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.4103/JVBD.JVBD_189_23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDengue fever, caused by the dengue virus transmitted by mosquitoes, usually manifests as flu-like symptoms and is a prevalent tropical illness. However, there are rare cases where the infection takes an unusual course, resulting in severe complications like dengue encephalitis. This case report delineates an occurrence of dengue encephalitis in a patient from Sri Lanka. This work provides insights into the clinical presentation, diagnostic difficulties, and treatment approaches linked to this uncommon manifestation of dengue fever...

Clinical features, cerebrospinal fluid changes, and prognosis in Chinese patients with autoimmune encephalitis
ConclusionThere are differences in age, gender, clinical characteristics, and CSF results in different subtypes of AE. First-line therapy failure would have poor functional recovery, and delayed therapy would increase the risk of relapse. Chloride ion content and white blood cell count in cerebrospinal fluid are positively correlated with the patient's exacerbation and admission to ICU. These indicators have certain clinical value for the prognosis of AE patients. (Source: Acta Neurologica Belgica)
