Viruses, Vol. 16, Pages 524: Dissemination of the Flavivirus Subgenomic Replicon Genome and Viral Proteins by Extracellular Vesicles
In this study, the cells that harbor subgenomic replicon derived from the Japanese encephalitis virus and dengue virus without producing any replication-competent viruses were employed as the EV donor. It was demonstrated that the EVs in the culture supernatants of those cells were able to transfer the replicon genome to other cells of various types. It was also shown that the EVs were incorporated by the recipient cells primarily through macropinocytosis after interaction with CD33 and Tim-1/Tim-4 on HeLa and K562 cells, respectively. Since the methods used in this study are free from contamination with infectious viral p...

Brain magnetic resonance imaging findings in children with neurological complications of coronavirus disease 2019 (Omicron variant): a multicenter retrospective observational study
ConclusionsOverall, these data highlighted five neuroimaging patterns associated with the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant, with acute necrotizing encephalopathy being the most common of these neuroimaging findings. Rarely, the brain MRI of these pediatric COVID-19 patients also demonstrate hippocampal atrophy.Graphical abstract (Source: Pediatric Radiology)

Paraneoplastic Syndromes in Neuroendocrine Prostate Cancer: A Systematic Review
Curr Oncol. 2024 Mar 21;31(3):1618-1632. doi: 10.3390/curroncol31030123.ABSTRACTNeuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) is a rare subtype of prostate cancer (PCa) that usually results in poor clinical outcomes and may be accompanied by paraneoplastic syndromes (PNS). NEPC is becoming more frequent. It can initially manifest as PNS, complicating diagnosis. Therefore, we reviewed the literature on the different PNS associated with NEPC. We systematically reviewed English-language articles from January 2017 to September 2023, identifying 17 studies meeting PRISMA guidelines for NEPC and associated PNS. A total of 17 articles we...

Impact of Toll-Like Receptors (TLRs) and TLR Signaling Proteins in Trigeminal Ganglia Impairing Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV-1) Progression to Encephalitis: Insights from Mouse Models
Front Biosci (Landmark Ed). 2024 Mar 14;29(3):102. doi: 10.31083/j.fbl2903102.ABSTRACTHerpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) or simplexvirus humanalpha 1 is a neurotropic virus that is responsible for orofacial infections in humans. More than 70% of the world's population may have seropositivity for HSV-1, and this virus is a leading cause of sporadic lethal encephalitis in humans. The role of toll-like receptors (TLRs) in defending against HSV-1 infection has been explored, including the consequences of lacking these receptors or other proteins in the TLR pathway. Cell and mouse models have been used to study the importance of th...
