Olaparib and niraparib as maintenance therapy in patients with newly diagnosed and platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer: A single-center study in China
CONCLUSIONS: Olaparib and niraparib were effective in patients with ovarian cancer without any new safety signals except for skin pigmentation. In patients with BRCAm, the 24-month PFS of the PARPi used in the PSR-M setting was even higher than that used in the FL-M setting.PMID:38679485 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000003125 (Source: Chinese Medical Journal)

Research progress on the mechanism of action of Salvia miltiorrhiza and its components in the treatment of endometrial carcinoma
Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand). 2024 Apr 28;70(4):140-146. doi: 10.14715/cmb/2024.70.4.22.ABSTRACTThe incidence and mortality of endometrial carcinoma (EC) are increasing year by year. Although the curative effect of surgery and commonly used drugs is clear, it is accompanied by obvious side effects, and safe and effective means are urgently needed to promote the curative effect and decrease the toxicity of drugs. Traditional Chinese medicine has been passed down for thousands of years in China and has proved to be advantageous in the treatment of various cancers and the auxiliary enhancement and reduction of toxicity. Thi...

Mapping and characterization of rust resistance genes Lr53 and Yr35 introgressed from Aegilops species
In this study, we used SNP analysis, sequence comparisons, and cytogenetic assays to determine that the chromosomal segment carrying Lr53 and Yr35 was originated from Ae.longissima or Ae. sharonensis or their derived species. In seedling tests, Lr53 conferred strong resistance against all five Chinese Pt races tested, and Yr35 showed effectiveness against Pst race CYR34 but susceptibility to race CYR32. Using a large population (3892 recombinant gametes) derived from plants homozygous for the ph1b mutation obtained from the cross 98M71 × CSph1b, both Lr53 and Yr35 were successfully mapped to a 6.03-Mb telomeric region of ...

Arctigenin induces activated HSCs quiescence via AMPK-PPAR γ pathway to ameliorate liver fibrosis in mice
Eur J Pharmacol. 2024 Apr 26:176629. doi: 10.1016/j.ejphar.2024.176629. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTArctigenin (ATG), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, is a natural lignan compound extracted from the seeds of burdock (Arctium lappa L, Asteraceae). As a natural product with multiple biological activities, the effect and mechanism of ATG against liver fibrosis are not fully elucidated yet. In current work, we first discovered that ATG could improve CCl4-induced liver injury reflected by lower plasma ALT and AST levels, liver coefficient and pathological scoring of ballooning. Furthermore, it also could reduce the posi...

Transcriptomic analysis reveals the critical role of Chemokine signaling in the anti-atherosclerosis effect of Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction
CONCLUSION: Xuefu Zhuyu decoction demonstrates effective regulation of plaque components, retarding plaque progression and preserving plaque stability by modulating lipid metabolism and inflammatory responses. Subsequent transcriptome analysis identified the cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction and chemokine signaling pathway as potential key pathways for the therapeutic effects of Xuefu Zhuyu decoction. This insight not only provides crucial avenues for further exploration into the mechanisms underlying Xuefu Zhuyu decoction but also offers valuable perspectives and hypotheses for enhancing disease prevention and treatm...

Short-Chain Carboxylates Facilitate the Counting of Yeasts in Sub-High Temperature Daqu
In this study, short-chain carboxylates (C1-C6) were added to the culture medium at various pH conditions to investigate their effects on the growth of molds and yeasts. The results demonstrated distinct inhibitory effects of the short-chain carboxylates, depending on both pH and concentration. Several tested short-chain carboxylates effectively suppressed mold growth on agar plates while leaving yeast growth unaffected. This suggests a simple and feasible method for enhancing the efficiency of yeast isolation and counting in Daqu. Such an approach is valuable for studying yeasts in diverse and complex habitats.PMID:386784...

Identification and functional analysis of the hub Ferroptosis-Related gene EZH2 in diabetic kidney disease
CONCLUSION: Overall, our data shouwed that histone H3K27 methyltransferase EZH2 could regulate the renal tubular epithelial cell ferroptosis by suppressing SLC7A11 in DKD, which may serve as a credible reliable indicator for diagnosing DKD and a potential target for treatment.PMID:38678670 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2024.112138 (Source: International Immunopharmacology)

Health risk analysis of nitrate in groundwater in Shanxi Province, China: A case study of the Datong Basin
J Water Health. 2024 Apr;22(4):701-716. doi: 10.2166/wh.2024.320. Epub 2024 Mar 18.ABSTRACTIn order to identify and effectively control the impact of NO3- pollution on human health, on the basis of investigation, sampling, analysis and testing, statistical analysis software (SPSS19), groundwater pollution analysis software, Nemera comprehensive index method, correlation analysis method and human health risk assessment model are applied for analysis and research. The results indicate that the groundwater in the study area is mainly Class II water, with overall good water quality. The main influencing factors for producing C...

Inhibition of PARP1 improves cardiac function after myocardial infarction via up-regulated NLRC5
Chem Biol Interact. 2024 Apr 26:111010. doi: 10.1016/j.cbi.2024.111010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe incidence and mortality rate of myocardial infarction are increasing per year in China. The polarization of macrophages towards the classically activated macrophages (M1) phenotype is of utmost importance in the progression of inflammatory stress subsequent to myocardial infarction. Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1(PARP1) is the ubiquitous and best characterized member of the PARP family, which has been reported to support macrophage polarization towards the pro-inflammatory phenotype. Yet, the role of PARP1 in myocardial...

Optimizing lipid control in Taiwanese diabetic patients: A collaborative consensus by the Diabetes Association of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Taiwanese Association of Diabetes Educators
We present an in-depth analysis of dyslipidemia management strategies for patients with diabetes mellitus in Taiwan. It critically examines the disparity between established guideline recommendations and actual clinical practices, particularly in the context of evolving policies affecting statin prescriptions. The focus is on synthesizing the most recent findings concerning lipid management in patients with diabetes mellitus, with a special emphasis on establishing consensus regarding low-density lipoprotein cholesterol treatment targets. The article culminates in providing comprehensive, evidence-based recommendations tai...
