Effectiveness and Safety of Radiofrequency Ablation versus Liver Resection in the Treatment of Early-stage Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: During the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma, hepatectomy demonstrates superior clinical efficacy compared to radiofrequency ablation, particularly in its ability to control tumor recurrence. However, radiofrequency ablation presents with fewer complications and a higher level of safety. These findings can serve as a valuable foundation for clinicians when selecting the most suitable treatment approaches for liver cancer.PMID:38684504 | DOI:10.62713/aic.3155 (Source: Annali Italiani di Chirurgia)

Sex Differences in Outcomes of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery with Accelerated Rehabilitation
CONCLUSION: We identified sex differences in the clinical prognosis and performance of perioperative patients undergoing hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery with accelerated rehabilitation. The perioperative pulmonary rehabilitation risk of male patients was higher than that of female patients, and the time to first defecation was longer in male than in female patients. The incidence of nausea and vomiting in women was higher than in men.PMID:38684503 | DOI:10.62713/aic.3169 (Source: Annali Italiani di Chirurgia)

Current status of liver transplantation for human immunodeficiency virus-infected patients in mainland China
This study provides an overview of the current landscape of HIV-positive patients receiving liver transplantation (LT) in mainland China. To date, our transplant center has conducted LT for eight end-stage liver disease patients co-infected with HIV, and all but one, who died two months postoperatively due to sepsis and progressive multi-organ failure, have survived. Comparative analysis with hepatitis B virus-infected patients during the same period revealed no statistically significant differences in acute rejection reactions, cytomegalovirus infection, bacteremia, pulmonary infections, acute kidney injury, new-onset can...

Helicobacter cholecystus bacteremia in an adult with acute cholecystitis
We report the isolation of Helicobacter cholecystus from a positive blood culture from a 58-year-old man in China who had bacteremia and acute cholecystitis. The patient's condition improved after symptomatic support treatment and subtotal cholecystectomy. This finding suggests that H. cholecystus should be considered as potential human pathogens.PMID:38684428 | DOI:10.7883/yoken.JJID.2023.468 (Source: Japanese Journal of Infectious Diseases)

Changes in liver and kidney function, red blood cell count and hemoglobin levels 1  day after ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave ablation for uterine fibroids
CONCLUSION: Ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave ablation for uterine fibroids can impose a higher detoxification load on the liver and cause thermal damage to and the destruction of RBCs within local circulation, potentially leading to AKI. Protein levels significantly decreased after UPMWA. Therefore, perioperative organ function protection measures and treatment should be actively integrated into clinical practice to improve prognosis and enhance recovery.PMID:38684224 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2024.2338542 (Source: International Journal of Hyperthermia)

Exploring the effective compounds and potential mechanisms of Shengxian Decoction against coronary heart disease by UPLC-Q-TOF/MS and network pharmacology analysis
Heliyon. 2024 Apr 16;10(8):e29558. doi: 10.1016/j.heliyon.2024.e29558. eCollection 2024 Apr 30.ABSTRACTAs a well-known classical Chinese medicine prescription, Shengxian Decoction (SXD) has been applied for a century to treat cardiovascular diseases, especially coronary heart disease (CHD), but the potentially effective compounds and underlying mechanisms remain unclear. With ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time of flight-mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF/MS) and network pharmacology analysis, the potential effective compounds of SXD and their pharmacological mechanisms against CHD were identified and reveal...

Women's Knowledge, Attitudes, and Perception on Personalized Risk-Stratified Breast Cancer Screening: A Cross-Sectional Study in Malaysia
CONCLUSION: General population's awareness of individualized risk-stratified breast cancer screening was insufficient despite their favourable attitude towards the disease. A multimodal strategy may be used to improve women's knowledge, attitude, and perception of individualized risk-stratified breast cancer screening.PMID:38679982 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.4.1231 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

A Comprehensive Integration of Data Regarding the Correlation of TNF- α rs1800629 Polymorphism with Susceptibility to Cervical Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: The findings from this meta-analysis suggest that the TNF-α rs1800629 polymorphism is a risk factor for cervical cancer in the general population, particularly in Caucasian and African women. However, further well-designed studies are warranted to validate these findings.PMID:38679974 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.4.1155 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

Data-driven sustainability evaluation and manufacturing system enhancement from economic, environmental, social, and sustainability perspectives
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 29. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33463-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSustainable manufacturing is crucial to achieving carbon neutrality targets. However, research on the sustainability of manufacturing systems is limited, and high consumption, low efficiency, and high emissions have resulted in high resource consumption and rapid environmental degradation. Therefore, it is of great importance to establish an evaluation and improvement indicator system conducive to sustainable development. To this end, this study developed a data-driven methodology for evaluating and enhancing the sustain...

Causal relationship between household consumption transition and CO < sub > 2 < /sub > emission in China: a dynamic panel model
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 29. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33459-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe mitigation of carbon dioxide (CO2) generated from household consumption, accounting for 52% of China's total greenhouse gas emissions, plays a pivotal role in China's pursuit of reaching a carbon peak by 2030. The study used three waves of nationally representative longitudinal data, energy statistics data, and input-output table to estimate household CO2 emissions (HCEs) in China at the micro-scale. The dynamic relationship between household consumption pattern transition and HCEs per capita was explored by applying...
