Identification of the Immune-related lncRNA SNHG14/ miR-200a-3p/ PCOLCE2 Axis in Colorectal Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: The current study revealed for the first time that a novel regulatory axis-long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) small nucleolar RNA host gene 14 (SNHG14)/ miR-200a-3p/ PCOLCE2- can act as the oncogenic axis of CRC cells and that clinicians can use it to predict the OS of colon-cancer patients. Additionally, differences in the protein expression of PCOLCE2 between normal and adenocarcinoma-colorectal tissues suggest its potential as a prognostic biomarker for CRC.PMID:38639631 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Outcomes of Total Hip Arthroplasty Performed for HIV-Associated Osteonecrosis in China: A Retrospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: THA is safe and effective in Chinese AIDS patients with ONFH. However, optimal treatment has limited efficacy in AIDS patients undergoing THA for ONFH. The reconsideration and evaluation of the predictive value of CD4+ T lymphocytes for postoperative complications in joint replacement procedures is warranted.PMID:38638043 | DOI:10.2174/011570162X302889240408033958 (Source: Cell Research)

Implications of Culturally Informed Palliative Care in a Chinese American Patient
1. Use a case example to showcase how culturally informed care can improve family and patient support, minimize conflict and misunderstanding between family and primary team.2. Providing culturally competent PC to Chinese diaspora patients can include respecting that death may be a taboo subject or word, careful attention to cultural beliefs around nutrition at end-of-life, and considerations of harmony and collectivism in the family unit in decision-making. Immunoradiotherapy for NSCLC: mechanisms, clinical outcomes, and future directions
AbstractNon-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has an extremely low 5-year survival rate, with the only effective treatment being immunoradiotherapy (iRT). Here, we review the progress of clinical research on iRT for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) over 2018 –2023, as well as the future directions. We first discuss the synergistic mechanisms of iRT, reflected in three aspects: immune regulation of RT, RT-activated immune-related pathways, and RT-related immune sensitization. iRT may include either external-beam or stereotactic-body RT combined with ei ther immune checkpoint inhibitors (e.g., immunoglobulins against immune...

Tobacco imagery in popular films in China from 2001 to 2020: a declining trend
Conclusion Tobacco imagery remains in films in China. The relevant authorities and film producers should ban films with tobacco imagery in China; for example, they should ban films with tobacco imagery from participating in awards, add warnings to films with tobacco imagery and give films containing tobacco imagery a default ‘R’ classification. Protecting minors from tobacco products: public interest litigation enables enforcement in China
To reduce access to and uptake of tobacco products among minors, national laws, such as the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Protection of Minors (LPM) and the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Tobacco Monopoly (LTM), stipulate that retail stores cannot sell tobacco products near primary or secondary schools, where local governments specify the exact distance between tobacco retailers and schools. Although such a location-based sales restriction could reduce youth exposure to tobacco,1 there remains a gap in the enforcement of this law in China. In this Advocacy in Action letter, we describe ...

Molecular diagnosis, clinical evaluation and phenotypic spectrum of Townes-Brocks syndrome: insights from a large Chinese hearing loss cohort
Conclusion This study presents the first insight of genetic screening for patients with TBS in a large HL cohort. We broadened the phenotypic-genotypic spectrum of TBS and our results supported an underestimated prevalence of TBS. Due to the rarity and phenotypic heterogeneity of rare diseases, broader spectrum molecular tests, especially whole genome sequencing, can improve the situation of underdiagnosis and provide effective recommendations for clinical management.
