Concentrations, sources and health risk of bisphenols in red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) from South-Eastern China
Chemosphere. 2024 Apr 27:142187. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.142187. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBisphenol analogs (BPs) are extensively employed in commercial and industrial products and they have been found in a variety of environmental matrices and human samples. The red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) has been a trendy food in China in recent decades. However, the levels of BPs in Chinese crayfish and the associated hazards of human exposure remain unknown. Thus, in this study, the levels of eight BPs in crayfish gathered from five major provinces engaged in crayfish within the Yangtze River Basin were analy...

Glioma hexokinase 3 positively correlates with malignancy and macrophage infiltration
ConclusionsThis is the first comprehensive research to figure out the relationship between HK3 and TME characteristics in gliomas. HK3 is positively associated with macrophage infiltration and can induce the immunosuppressive TME and malignant phenotype of gliomas. (Source: Metabolic Brain Disease)

Identification of NO2 and SO2 over China: Characterization of polluted and hotspots Provinces
This study identifies long-term (2005 ‒2020) Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) based NO2 and SO2 pollution hotspots across China by analyzing spatiotemporal distributions and variations, with characterization of polluted provinces, SO2/NO2 ratio, trend, and assessing how effective China ’s Air Pollution Control Policy (APCP) is on NO2 and SO2. Results show that NO2 and SO2 pollution hotspots were seen in China's central (Hubei), eastern (Anhui, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang), northern (Beijing, Hebei, Henan, Shanxi, Tianjin), northeast (Liaoning, Jilin), northwestern (Urumqi), southern (Guangdong, Hong Kong), and southwe...

Regulation of VEGF-A expression and VEGF-A-targeted therapy in malignant tumors
AbstractVascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), a highly conserved dimeric glycoprotein, is a key regulatory gene and a marker molecule of angiogenesis. The upregulation of VEGF-A facilitates the process of tumor vascularization, thereby fostering the initiation and progression of malignant neoplasms. Many genes can adjust the angiogenesis of tumors by changing the expression of VEGF-A. In addition, VEGF-A also exhibits immune regulatory properties, which directly or indirectly suppresses the antitumor activity of immune cells. The emergence of VEGF-A-targeted therapy alone or in rational combinations has revolution...

Effect of visual impairment on subjective cognitive decline in older adults: a cross-sectional study in China
Conclusions It was found that older adults experiencing visual impairments are at an elevated risk of developing SCD compared with their counterparts without such impairments. Additionally, visual impairment remains a significant risk factor for SCD in the elderly, even adjusting for potential biases arising from individual observable heterogeneity. (Source: BMJ Open)
