Factors Influencing Iatrogenic Skin Injury in Neonates and Nursing Strategies
CONCLUSION: Length of stay, orotracheal intubation use, and gastric tube use are independent risk factors for iatrogenic skin injury in neonates. Hospital stays and unnecessary use of orotracheal intubation and gastric tube should be reduced in future clinical management. Attention should be paid to strengthening skin observation and care, keeping skin dry and clean, and preventing iatrogenic skin injury.PMID:38687850 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Pharmacokinetic, Pharmacodynamic, and Safety Profiles of Proline Henagliflozin in Chinese Subjects with Varying Degrees of Liver Dysfunction
J Clin Pharmacol. 2024 Apr 30. doi: 10.1002/jcph.2437. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTProline henagliflozin, a novel selective inhibitor of sodium glucose cotransporter 2, is a treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus. We designed a parallel-group, open-label, and multicenter study to evaluate the pharmacokinetic (PK), pharmacodynamic (PD), and safety profiles of henagliflozin in Chinese subjects with varying degrees of liver dysfunction. Thirty-two subjects were enrolled and divided into four groups based on liver function (normal liver function, mild, moderate, or severe liver dysfunction). The area under the plasma concent...

Ayurvedic and Chinese Herbs against Coronaviruses
Curr Pharm Des. 2024 Apr 29. doi: 10.2174/0113816128269864231112094917. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCOVID-19 is a viral disease that infects the lower airways, causing severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and fatal pneumonia. The ripple effect of the COVID-19 outbreak has created serious problems in the healthcare systems of many countries and had far-reaching consequences for the global economy. Thus, effective control measures should be implemented for this coronavirus infection in the future. The ongoing episode of the SARS-CoV-2 sickness, COVID-19, in China, and the subsequent irregular spread of contamination to...

Systematic Chemical Analysis of  Crude Glycan Isolates from the Seven‑herb Decoction Quanzhenyiqitang with Anti-COPD Activity
Chem Biodivers. 2024 Apr 30:e202400277. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202400277. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe classical Chinese Medicine prescription, Quanzhenyiqitang (QZYQT), containing seven tonic herbs (Shudi, Dangshen, Maidong, Baizhu, Niuxi, Fuzi, and Wuweizi) is clinically used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Although there are studies on the pharmacological effects of QZYQT, little attention has been paid to its active carbohydrate ingredients. We performed a systematic chemical analysis of the crude glycan isolates from the seven-herb decoction (GI-QZYQT) after confirming its anti-COPD activity. GI...

Fangchinoline inhibits growth and biofilm of Candida albicans by inducing ROS overproduction
J Cell Mol Med. 2024 May;28(9):e18354. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.18354.ABSTRACTInfections caused by Candida species, especially Candida albicans, threaten the public health and create economic burden. Shortage of antifungals and emergence of drug resistance call for new antifungal therapies while natural products were attractive sources for developing new drugs. In our study, fangchinoline, a bis-benzylisoquinoline alkaloid from Chinese herb Stephania tetrandra S. Moore, exerted antifungal effects on planktonic growth of several Candida species including C. albicans, with MIC no more than 50 μg/mL. In addition, results from micro...

Screening of the effective sites of Cichorium glandulosum against hyperuricemia combined with hyperlipidemia and its network pharmacology analysis
This study aims to explore the pharmacological effects and mechanisms of Cichorium glandulosum on this comorbidity through a combination of animal experiments, network pharmacology, and molecular docking techniques. A rat model of hyperuricaemia combined with hyperlipidaemia was established through a high-fat and high-purine diet, and the effective parts of the aqueous extract of Cichorium glandulosum to reduce uric acid and lipid levels were screened and the components of the parts were analysed by LC-MS/MS. The active components, core targets, and key pathways were analysed using network pharmacology and validated by mol...

Pharmacological and Therapeutic Potential of Berbamine: A Potent Alkaloid from Genus Berberis
Curr Top Med Chem. 2024 Apr 29. doi: 10.2174/0115680266289292240420062705. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBerbamine (Ber) is an active medicinal bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid, which is usually obtained from different plants of the genus Berberis (family Berberidaceae) and is used to cure various disorders in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic systems of medicine. Numerous in-vitro and in-vivo studies revealed the apoptotic and cytotoxic potential of Ber against different cell lines (SMMC-7721, A549, MDA-MB-231, and K562) by upregulating pro-apoptotic (Bax, p53) and downregulating anti-apoptotic (Bcl-2, survivin) proteins. O...

Concentrations, sources and health risk of bisphenols in red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) from South-Eastern China
Chemosphere. 2024 Apr 27:142187. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.142187. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBisphenol analogs (BPs) are extensively employed in commercial and industrial products and they have been found in a variety of environmental matrices and human samples. The red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) has been a trendy food in China in recent decades. However, the levels of BPs in Chinese crayfish and the associated hazards of human exposure remain unknown. Thus, in this study, the levels of eight BPs in crayfish gathered from five major provinces engaged in crayfish within the Yangtze River Basin were analy...
