Curr Oncol. 2024 Apr 19;31(4):2289-2304. doi: 10.3390/curroncol31040170.ABSTRACTA recent measure was developed to assess the Quality of Life (QoL) of young people with advanced cancer and is available for parents and professionals (Advance QoL). The present study aimed to elaborate self-reported versions for children and adolescents with advanced cancer. We adopted a four-phase research plan: (1) to elaborate the Advance QoL questionnaire for youth (8-12 and 13-18 years old) with a team of young research partners; (2) to evaluate the understandability of these versions in a sample of 12 young patients from the target popul...

Abnormal Puberty Revisited: A Practical Approach
Given the prevalence of issues related to puberty in the public and social media as well as newer research findings, it is an appropriate time to review the ways pubertal changes may present at any age. Appropriate management of these children often involves follow-up clinical assessment with varying and sometimes minimal requirements for laboratory assessment, especially at initial presentation. Thus, this issue of Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics of North America aims to present a practical approach to children presenting with findings of early or late pubertal development. Overcoming implementation challenges through using a train-the-trainer approach to teach numeracy in a special school setting
This study recruited 13 students aged between 12 and 16 years of age with developmental disabilities to receive TEN-DD. Pre- and post-intervention tests on a standardised numeracy measure were conducted.A train-the-trainer model was developed and successfully delivered to train teaching staff in TEN-DD. A standardised outcome measure indicated that ten students made improvements to their numeracy skills after teachers trained using this approach delivered TEN-DD for between 3 and 10 months.Very little research has been carried out to better understand methods for overcoming implementation challenges for delivering evid...

Characterization of speech and language phenotype in the 8p23.1 syndrome
AbstractThe 8p23.1 duplication syndrome is a rare genetic condition with an estimated prevalence rate of 1 out of 58,000. Although the syndrome was associated with speech and language delays, a comprehensive assessment of speech and language functions has not been undertaken in this population. To address this issue, the present study reports rigorous speech and language, in addition to oral-facial and developmental, assessment of a 50-month-old Turkish-speaking boy who was diagnosed with the 8p23.1 duplication syndrome. Standardized tests of development, articulation and phonology, receptive and expressive language and a ...

Child Laborers ’ Exposure to Neglect in Rural Bangladesh: Prevalence and Risk Factors
In this study, we investigated the prevalence and factors of child labor neglect in rural Bangladesh. Using the snowball sampling method, 200 parents and employers were recruited for this cross-sectional study. We performed a multivariable linear regression analysis using SPSS 28 version. Child laborers are found to be severely neglected, primarily deprived of food and water, and are inadequately supervised. Elements of parental risk, including poor household income ( β = 0.07, CI = 0.03, 0.11,p <  0.01) and a history of their own early childhood maltreatment (β = 0.22, CI = 0.07, 0.36,p <  ...

Audiological Profile in Adenoid Hypertrophy
ConclusionIn a significant percentage of cases, Adenoid hypertrophy affects the middle ear leading to conductive hearing loss. If left untreated it can lead to delayed speech and language development, auditory processing disorders, mental retardation, and physical and social complications. These are avoidable through primary health care education, accurate diagnosis, and effective treatment. (Source: Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery)
