Worming into infancy: Exploring helminth-microbiome interactions in early life
Cell Host Microbe. 2024 May 8;32(5):639-650. doi: 10.1016/j.chom.2024.04.009.ABSTRACTThere is rapidly growing awareness of microbiome assembly and function in early-life gut health. Although many factors, such as antibiotic use and highly processed diets, impinge on this process, most research has focused on people residing in high-income countries. However, much of the world's population lives in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where, in addition to erratic antibiotic use and suboptimal diets, these groups experience unique challenges. Indeed, many children in LMICs are infected with intestinal helminths. Althou...

Mother, child and adolescent health outcomes in two long-term refugee camp settings at the Thai-Myanmar border 2000-2018: a retrospective analysis
CONCLUSION: Comprehensive PHC delivery, with improved health provider competence in MCAH care, together with secured funding is an appropriate strategy to bring MCAH indicators to acceptable levels. However, inequities due to confinement in camps, fragmentation of specific health services, prevent fulfilment of the 2030 SDG Agenda to 'Leave no one behind'. Costs per birth was 115 EURO in 2018; however, MCAH expenditure requires further exploration over a longer period.PMID:38721695 | DOI:10.1017/S146342362400015X (Source: Primary Care)

Understanding Parental Secure Base Support Across Youth Sport Contexts in Sweden
Psychol Sport Exerc. 2024 May 7:102658. doi: 10.1016/j.psychsport.2024.102658. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe notion of secure base explains how a child can grow and become independent through access to a significant other (i.e., parent) who is available, encouraging, and noninterfering. The purpose of the current study was to develop an understanding of parental secure base support within the context of youth sport in Sweden, with a specific focus on: (a) what parental behaviors constitute a secure base, and (b) how these behaviors differ across contexts (at home before and after sport, at practice and during competiti...

GSE232054 A surgical mouse model of neonatal right ventricular outflow tract obstruction by pulmonary artery banding
Contributors : Debao li ; Lincai yeSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Mus musculusDisease animal models play an extremely important role in preclinical research. Lack of corresponding animal models, many basic research cannot be carried out, and the conclusions obtained are incomplete or even incorrect. Right ventricular (RV) outflow tract (RVOT) obstruction leads to RV pressure overload (PO) and reduced pulmonary blood flow (RPF), which are two of the most important pathophysiological characteristics in pediatric cardiovascular diseases, and seriously affect the survival rate and ...

Development and implementation of local pediatric anesthesia performance metrics at a Canadian children ’s hospital: a technical report
ConclusionWe introduced and implemented customized pediatric anesthesia metrics within an academic pediatric hospital; however, this framework is easily adaptable across multiple clinical specialties and institutions. In harnessing data-collecting and reporting properties of EHR, the metrics we describe provide insights that facilitate real-time monitoring and foster a culture of continuous learning in line with strategic goals of high-reliability organizations. Scoping Review: Digital Mental Health Interventions for Children and Adolescents Affected by War
Over 200 million children and adolescents live in countries affected by violent conflict, are likely to have complex mental health needs, and struggle to access traditional mental health services. Digital mental health interventions have the potential to overcome some of the barriers in accessing mental health support. We performed a scoping review to map existing digital mental health interventions relevant for children and adolescents affected by war, examine the strength of the evidence base, and inform the development of future interventions.
