Automated AI-based grading of neuroendocrine tumors using Ki-67 proliferation index: comparative evaluation and performance analysis
AbstractEarly detection is critical for successfully diagnosing cancer, and timely analysis of diagnostic tests is increasingly important. In the context of neuroendocrine tumors, the Ki-67 proliferation index serves as a fundamental biomarker, aiding pathologists in grading and diagnosing these tumors based on histopathological images. The appropriate treatment plan for the patient is determined based on the tumor grade. An artificial intelligence-based method is proposed to aid pathologists in the automated calculation and grading of the Ki-67 proliferation index. The proposed system first performs preprocessing to enhan...

Intractable Postoperative Pancreatic Fistula: Undefined Type of Pancreatic Fistula Managed by Puestow-Like Procedure
J Clin Med Res. 2024 Apr;16(4):182-188. doi: 10.14740/jocmr5123. Epub 2024 Apr 30.ABSTRACTPancreatoduodenectomy (PD) is a very complex and highly challenging operation for surgeons worldwide. It is the surgical procedure of choice for the management of benign and malignant diseases of the periampullary region. Although mortality rate following this complicated surgery has fallen to 1-3%, morbidity rate following PD remains high, with almost 30-40% of patients developing at least one complication. Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) is one of the most common complications following PD. Therefore, Pancreatico-enteric ana...

Extra-peritoneal vs. Trans-peritoneal Radical Cystectomy pros and cons
Urol J. 2024 May 7. doi: 10.22037/uj.v20i.8140. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOne of the most common cancers of the urinary tract is bladder tumors. Bladder cancers are divided into two groups: non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and muscle-invasive bladder cancer. (1) Trans-Peritoneal Radical Cystectomy (RC) with pelvic lymphadenectomy is the standard technique in muscle invasive and high risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (2). and Urologist around the world are more familiar with trans-peritoneal technique. In some articles extra-peritoneal Radical Cystectomy (RC) implied as an decreased postoperative complic...

The Potential Role of Urinary Microbiota in Bladder Carcinogenesis: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: The included studies demonstrate that the composition of urinary microbiota is altered in patients with BC. However, the differentially enriched genera in the urine of these patients vary between studies, and there is too much heterogeneity across studies to make any reliable and valid conclusions. Furthermore, well-designed research is necessary to assess the role of microbiota in the carcinogenesis and progression of BC.PMID:38716613 | DOI:10.22037/uj.v20i.8036 (Source: Urology Journal)

An extensive analysis of the prognostic and immune role of FOXO1 in various types of cancer
Braz J Med Biol Res. 2024 May 3;57:e13378. doi: 10.1590/1414-431X2024e13378. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTForkhead Box O1 (FOXO1) has been reported to play important roles in many tumors. However, FOXO1 has not been studied in pan-cancer. The purpose of this study was to reveal the roles of FOXO1 in pan-cancer (33 cancers in this study). Through multiple public platforms, a pan-cancer analysis of FOXO1 was conducted to obtained FOXO1 expression profiles in various tumors to explore the relationship between FOXO1 expression and prognosis of these tumors and to disclose the potential mechanism of FOXO1 in these tumors. FOXO1 was...

Evaluation of In Vitro Antimicrobial, Cytotoxic, Thrombolytic, and Antiarthritic Property of Different Parts of Bari Orchid
Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2024 Apr 30;2024:8148610. doi: 10.1155/2024/8148610. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTMany different herbal extracts have historically been utilized to treat microbe-induced infections, injuries, cancer, thrombosis, and arthritis. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial, cytotoxic, in vitro thrombolytic, and in vitro antiarthritic properties of ethanolic extracts of stem and seed of Bari orchid 1 (BO) plant. This orchid plant was developed by the Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) in Gazipur. Fourteen microbes were employed in the antimicrobial investigation, a...

Factors Associated With Additional Axillary Disease in Patients With Positive Sentinel Lymph Nodes After Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy for Breast Cancer
Discussion: Among patients with positive SLN after NAC, clinically node positive and ER+ HER2- patients were more likely to have nonSLN involvement. Our findings support guidelines to consider omitting cALND in clinically node negative patients. With improving NAC, optimal axillary sampling, and radiation, omitting cALND may be safe in some clinically node positive triple negative or HER2+ patients with low volume residual disease, but further research is needed.PMID:38716696 | DOI:10.1177/00031348241248813 (Source: The American Surgeon)
