EphB1 causes retinal damage through inflammatory pathways in the retina and retinal M üller cells
CONCLUSIONS: EphB1 is increased in the retinas of diabetic humans and mice and in high glucose-treated Müller cells. This increase leads to inflammatory proteins. EphB1 also enhanced retinal damage in response to I/R. Taken together, inhibition of EphB1 may offer a new therapeutic option for diabetic retinopathy.PMID:38601015 | PMC:PMC11006007 (Source: Molecular Vision)

The soluble (pro)renin receptor promotes a preeclampsia-like phenotype both in vitro and in vivo
Hypertens Res. 2024 Apr 11. doi: 10.1038/s41440-024-01678-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPreeclampsia is classified as new-onset hypertension coupled with gross endothelial dysfunction. Placental (pro)renin receptor ((P)RR) and plasma soluble (P)RR (s(P)RR) are elevated in patients with preeclampsia. Thus, we aimed to interrogate the role (P)RR may play in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia. Human uterine microvascular endothelial cells (HUtMECs, n = 4) were cultured with either; vehicle (PBS), 25-100 nM recombinant s(P)RR, or 10 ng/ml TNF-a (positive control) for 24 h. Conditioned media and cells were assessed for endothe...

Heritability and genome-wide association study of vaccine-induced immune response in Beagles: A pilot study
The objective of this study was to estimate the heritability of the antibody response to vaccination against viral and bacterial pathogens, and to identify genes driving variation of the immune response to vaccination in Beagles. Sixty puppies were immunized following a standard vaccination schedule with an attenuated combination vaccine containing antigens for canine adenovirus type 2, canine distemper virus, canine parainfluenza virus, canine parvovirus, and four strains of Leptospira bacteria. Serum antibody measurements for each viral and bacterial component were measured at multiple time points. Heritability estimatio...

Indirubin-3'-monoxime exhibits potent antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects against human adenoviruses in vitro and in vivo
Biomed Pharmacother. 2024 Apr 9;174:116558. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2024.116558. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHuman adenovirus (HAdV) infection is a major cause of respiratory disease, yet no antiviral drugs have been approved for its treatment. Herein, we evaluated the antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects of cyclin-dependent protein kinase (CDK) inhibitor indirubin-3'-monoxime (IM) against HAdV infection in cells and a transgenic mouse model. After evaluating its cytotoxicity, cytopathic effect reduction, antiviral replication kinetics, and viral yield reduction assays were performed to assess the anti-HAdV activity of ...

Zinc finger protein 36 like 2-histone deacetylase 1 axis is involved in the bone responses to mechanical stress
Biochim Biophys Acta Mol Basis Dis. 2024 Apr 9:167162. doi: 10.1016/j.bbadis.2024.167162. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe molecular mechanism underlying the promotion of fracture healing by mechanical stimuli remains unclear. The present study aimed to investigate the role of zinc finger protein 36 like 2 (ZFP36L2)-histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) axis on the osteogenic responses to moderate mechanical stimulation. Appropriate stimulation of fluid shear stress (FSS) was performed on MC3T3-E1 cells transduced with ZFP36L2 and HDAC1 recombinant adenoviruses, aiming to validate the influence of mechanical stress on the express...

CTNNAL1 promotes the structural integrity of bronchial epithelial cells through the RhoA/ROCK1 pathway
Acta Biochim Biophys Sin (Shanghai). 2024 Apr 11. doi: 10.3724/abbs.2024026. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAdhesion molecules play critical roles in maintaining the structural integrity of the airway epithelium in airways under stress. Previously, we reported that catenin alpha-like 1 (CTNNAL1) is downregulated in an asthma animal model and upregulated at the edge of human bronchial epithelial cells (HBECs) after ozone stress. In this work, we explore the potential role of CTNNAL1 in the structural adhesion of HBECs and its possible mechanism. We construct a CTNNAL1 ‒/‒ mouse model with CTNNAL1-RNAi recombinant adeno-a...
