Dehydration-Induced Cluster Consolidation in a Metal-Organic Framework for Sieving Hexane Isomers
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 22:e202403209. doi: 10.1002/anie.202403209. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetal-organic frameworks (MOFs) that exhibit dynamic phase-transition behavior under external stimuli could have great potential in adsorptive separations. Here we report on a zinc-based microporous MOF (JNU-80) and its reversible transformation between two crystalline phases: large pore (JNU-80-LP) and narrow pore (JNU-80-NP). Specifically, JNU-80-LP can undergo a dehydration-induced cluster consolidation under heat treatment, resulting in JNU-80-NP with a reduced channel that allows exclusion of di-branched hexane i...

Blocking Interfacial Proton Transport via Self-Assembled Monolayer for Hydrogen Evolution-Free Zinc Batteries
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 22:e202404825. doi: 10.1002/anie.202404825. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAqueous Zn-ion batteries (ZIBs) are promising next-generation energy storage devices, yet suffer from the issues of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and intricate side reactions on the Zn anode surface. The hydrogen (H)-bond networks play a critical role in interfacial proton transport that may closely relate to HER but are rarely investigated.Herein, we report a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) strategy which is constructed by anchoring ionic liquid cations on Ti3C2Tx substrate for HER-free Zn anode. Molecule dynamics...

A validated method for simultaneous quantification of four antiretrovirals in dried blood spot and plasma using LC-MS/MS: Application to efavirenz therapeutic drug monitoring in pregnant patients
CONCLUSIONS: The method was successfully applied to quantify efavirenz in DBS samples obtained from HIV-1 infected pregnant volunteers under antiretroviral therapy. The concentrations of efavirenz in DBS and plasma were comparable according to Passing-Bablok regression and Bland-Altman analysis.PMID:38649089 | DOI:10.1016/j.clinbiochem.2024.110765 (Source: Clinical Biochemistry)

Structural insights into the potential binding sites of Cathepsin D using molecular modelling techniques
Amino Acids. 2024 Apr 22;56(1):33. doi: 10.1007/s00726-023-03367-1.ABSTRACTAlzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent type of dementia caused by the accumulation of amyloid beta (Aβ) peptides. The extracellular deposition of Aβ peptides in human AD brain causes neuronal death. Therefore, it has been found that Aβ peptide degradation is a possible therapeutic target for AD. CathD has been known to breakdown amyloid beta peptides. However, the structural role of CathD is not yet clear. Hence, for the purpose of gaining a deeper comprehension of the structure of CathD, the present computational investigation was perfor...

Evaluation of multi-heavy metal tolerance traits of soil-borne fungi for simultaneous removal of hazardous metals
The objective of the present study was to isolate the fungi from the agricultural soil of Kashmir valley, investigate their multi-metal tolerance to heavy metals and evaluate the metal uptake capacities of the resistant fungi. The fungi were isolated and identified on the basis of morphological and molecular approach (ITS1 and ITS4). The tolerance limits of the isolated fungal strains to various doses of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), zinc (Zn), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), and cobalt (Co) was evaluated. Five fungal strains,Aspergillus niger, Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium verticillioides,Aspergillus fischeri, Epicoccu...

ZFP36L1 controls KLF16 mRNA stability in vascular smooth muscle cells during restenosis after vascular injury
This study aimed to evaluate the role of ZFP36L1 in restenosis. We found that the expression of ZFP36L1 was inhibited in VSMC-phenotypic transformation induced by TGF- β, PDGF-BB, and FBS and also in the rat carotid injury model. In addition, we found that the overexpression of ZFP36L1 inhibited the proliferation and migration of VSMCs and promoted the expression of VSMC contractile genes; whereas ZFP36L1 interference promoted the proliferation and migration of V SMCs and suppressed the expression of contractile genes. Determining Structures of Layer-by-Layer Spin-Coated Zinc Dicarboxylate-Based Metal-Organic Thin Films
Chemistry. 2024 Apr 20:e202400565. doi: 10.1002/chem.202400565. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThin films of crystalline solids with substantial free volume from organic chromophores and metal secondary building units (SBUs) are promising for engineering new optoelectronic properties through control of interchromophore coupling. Zn-based SBUs are especially relevant in this case because they avoid quenching the chromophore's luminescence. We find that layer-by-layer spin-coating using Zn acetate dihydrate and benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (H2BDC) and biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid (H2BPDC) linkers easily produces crystalli...

CXXC5 drove inflammation and ovarian cancer proliferation via transcriptional activation of ZNF143 and EGR1
Cell Signal. 2024 Apr 19;119:111180. doi: 10.1016/j.cellsig.2024.111180. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCXXC5, a zinc-finger protein, is known for its role in epigenetic regulation via binding to unmethylated CpG islands in gene promoters. As a transcription factor and epigenetic regulator, CXXC5 modulates various signaling processes and acts as a key coordinator. Altered expression or activity of CXXC5 has been linked to various pathological conditions, including tumorigenesis. Despite its known role in cancer, CXXC5's function and mechanism in ovarian cancer are unclear. We analyzed multiple public databases and found tha...
