Exploring Type II Diabetes Inhibitors from Genus Daphne Plant-species: An Integrated Computational Study
CONCLUSION: Our analysis took us to the conclusion that daphnegiralin B4 (36) among all ligands comes out to be a lead compound having drug-like properties among 38 ligands being non-carcinogenic and non-cytotoxic which would benefit the medical community by providing significant drugs against diabetes. Pragmatic laboratory investigations identified a new precursor to open new doors for new drug discovery.PMID:38584562 | DOI:10.2174/0113862073262227231005074024 (Source: Combinatorial Chemistry and High Throughput Screening)

Response of Male Reproductive System Against Ionizing Radiation and Available Radio-protective Agents: Cellular and Molecular Insight
CONCLUSION: Further study is needed to optimize these tactics and fill knowledge gaps. Also, the effective components of herbal, synthetic drugs, etc., should be isolated and tested up to clinical levels, paving the way for successful radioprotection and radiomitigation strategies in the male reproductive system.PMID:38584548 | DOI:10.2174/0118744710285874240326041025 (Source: Current Radiopharmaceuticals)

Effects of Zinc Combined with Metformin on Zinc Homeostasis, Blood-Epididymal Barrier, and Epididymal Absorption in Male Diabetic Mice
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2024 Apr 8. doi: 10.1007/s12011-024-04171-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiabetes increases the likelihood of germ cell damage, hypogonadism, and male infertility. Diabetes leads to lower zinc (Zn) levels, an important micronutrient for maintaining male fertility, and zinc deficiency can lead to decreased male fertility through multiple mechanisms. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of combined metformin and zinc administration on epididymis in diabetic mice; 10 of 50 male mice were randomly selected as the control group (group C), and the remaining 40 mice were randomly divided into...

Characterization of hypersaline Oklahoma native microalgae cultivated in flowback and produced water: growth profile and contaminant removal
Bioprocess Biosyst Eng. 2024 Apr 8. doi: 10.1007/s00449-024-02992-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis work explores the potential of three hypersaline native microalgae strains from Oklahoma, Geitlerinema carotinosum, Pseudanabaena sp., and Picochlorum oklahomensis, for simultaneous treatment of flowback (FW) and produced wastewater (PW) and the production of algal biomass. The quality of wastewater before and after treatment with these microalgae strains was evaluated and a characterization of algal biomass in terms of moisture, volatile matter, fixed carbon, and ash contents was assessed. The experimental results indic...

Inhibition of USP7 enhances CD8 < sup > + < /sup > T cell activity in liver cancer by suppressing PRDM1-mediated FGL1 upregulation
In this study we investigated the role of USP7 in modulation of FGL1-mediated liver cancer immune evasion. We showed that knockdown of USP7 or treatment with USP7 inhibitor P5091 suppressed liver cancer growth by promoting CD8+ T cell activity in Hepa1-6 xenograft mice and in HepG2 or Huh7 cells co-cultured with T cells, whereas USP7 overexpression produced the opposite effect. We found that USP7 upregulated FGL1 in HepG2 and Huh7 cells by deubiquitination of transcriptional factor PR domain zinc finger protein 1 (PRDM1), which transcriptionally activated FGL1, and attenuated the CD8+ T cell activity, leading to the liver ...
