Splanchnic Vein Thrombosis: The State-of-the-Art on Anticoagulant Treatment
Hamostaseologie. 2024 Feb 14. doi: 10.1055/a-2232-5480. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSplanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT) is a rare type of venous thromboembolism occurring within the splanchnic venous system. Portal vein thrombosis is the most common presentation, while Budd-Chiari syndrome is the least common. Liver cirrhosis and abdominal solid cancer are the main local risk factors for SVT, whereas myeloproliferative neoplasms are the predominant systemic risk factors. Signs and symptoms of SVT are nonspecific and include abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, and ascites. Asymptomatic SVT is not uncommon, and the maj...

Influence of a Passive Tilt Test on the Proteomic Composition of the Blood of Healthy Humans
In order to identify changes in the blood proteome of healthy volunteers after passive tilt test carried out on day 19 of head-down bed rest, a chromato-mass-spectrometric analysis of samples of dried blood spots was carried out. It was revealed that the body ’s response to the tilt test was characterized by a decrease in the level of HDL and kininogen-1. After the tilt test, we observed an increase in the level of vimentin, vitamin K-dependent protein C, Wnt signaling pathway proteins, proteins involved in autophagy and adaptive immune response, focal adhesion proteins, vascular damage marker S100A8, PEDF regulator, and...

Vitamin K converting enzyme UBIAD1 plays an important role in osteogenesis and chondrogenesis in mice
In this study, we investigated the function of UBIAD1 in osteogenesis using a tamoxifen-dependent UBIAD1-deficient mouse model. When UBIAD1 deficiency was induced from the first week of life, the femur was significantly shortened, and bone mineral density (BMD) was reduced. In addition, the expression of bone and chondrocyte matrix proteins and chondrocyte differentiation factors was significantly decreased. In primary cultured chondrocytes, chondrocyte differentiation was significantly reduced by UBIAD1 deficiency. These results suggest that UBIAD1 is an important factor for the regulation of chondrocyte proliferation and...

Non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants versus warfarin for the treatment of left ventricular thrombus
CONCLUSION: Non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants may be an efficacious and safe alternative to warfarin for LVT management. Future studies should explore the safety and efficacy of anticoagulation discontinuation by 1 year as an overall strategy.PMID:38327164 | DOI:10.12809/hkmj2210034 (Source: Hong Kong Med J)

< em > Glycomyces niveus < /em > sp. nov., a novel actinomycete isolated from sandy soil
Int J Syst Evol Microbiol. 2024 Feb;74(2). doi: 10.1099/ijsem.0.006265.ABSTRACTA novel mycelium-forming actinomycete, designated strain NEAU-S30T, was isolated from the sandy soil of a sea beach in Shouguang city, Shandong province, PR China. The strain developed long chains of non-motile cylindrical spores with smooth surfaces on aerial mycelia. The results of a polyphasic taxonomic study indicated that NEAU-S30T represented a member of the genus Glycomyces. The results of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that NEAU-S30T was closely related to 'Glycomycesluteolus' (98.97 % sequence similarity), Glycomycesalgeriens...
