Safety and efficacy of magnetic seed localisation of non-palpable breast lesions: pilot study in a Chinese population.
Authors: Fung WY, Wong T, Chau CM, Yu ELM, Chan TS, Chan RLS, Yung AWT, Ma JKF Abstract INTRODUCTION: A magnetic seed marker system (Magseed, Endomagnetics, Cambridge, United Kingdom) is used as a localisation method for non-palpable breast lesions in the United States, Europe, and Hong Kong. It overcomes many limitations of conventional techniques and allows scheduling flexibility. We sought to evaluate its efficacy and safety in the Chinese population. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed all Chinese women who underwent magnetic seed marker-guided breast lesion excision from June 2019 to February 2020 at a si...

Rapid Estimate of Inadequate Health Literacy (REIHL): development and validation of a practitioner-friendly health literacy screening tool for older adults.
This study aimed to develop and validate a brief practitioner-friendly health literacy screening tool, called Rapid Estimate of Inadequate Health Literacy (REIHL), that estimates patients' health literacy inadequacy in demanding clinical settings. METHODS: This is a methodological study of 304 community-dwelling older adults recruited from one community health centre and five district elderly community centres. Logistic regression models were used to identify the coefficients of the REIHL score's significant factors. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was then used to assess the REIHL's sensitivity ...

Labour analgesia: update and literature review.
Authors: Lam KK, Leung MKM, Irwin MG Abstract Pain relief is an important component of modern obstetric care and can be produced by neuraxial, systemic, or inhalational analgesia or various physical techniques. We review the most recent evidence on the efficacy and safety of these techniques. Over the past decade, the availability of safer local anaesthetics, ultra-short acting opioids, combined spinal-epidural needles, patient-controlled analgesic devices, and ultrasound have revolutionised obstetric regional analgesia. Recent meta-analyses have supported epidural analgesia as the most efficacious technique, as it...

Hong Kong Society of Clinical Blood Management recommendations for implementation of patient blood management.
Authors: Chow YF, Cheng BCP, Cheng HK, Ho B, Lee CK, Ng SK, So R, Tse KC, Tsui C, Wan R, Wong S, Hong Kong Society of Clinical Blood Management Limited Abstract Patient blood management (PBM) is a patient-centred, multidisciplinary approach to optimise red cell mass, minimise blood loss, and manage tolerance to anaemia in an effort to improve patient outcomes. Well-implemented PBM improves patient outcomes and reduces demand for blood products. The multidisciplinary approach of PBM can often allow patients to avoid blood transfusions, which are associated with less favourable clinical outcomes. In Hong Kong, there ...
