Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 2053: Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Properties of Berberis vulgaris (L.) Stem Bark Dry Extract
asela Elena Gîrd Berberis vulgaris (L.) has remarkable ethnopharmacological properties and is widely used in traditional medicine. The present study investigated B. vulgaris stem bark (Berberidis cortex) by extraction with 50% ethanol. The main secondary metabolites were quantified, resulting in a polyphenols content of 17.6780 ± 3.9320 mg Eq tannic acid/100 g extract, phenolic acids amount of 3.3886 ± 0.3481 mg Eq chlorogenic acid/100 g extract and 78.95 µg/g berberine. The dried hydro-ethanolic extract (BVE) was thoroughly analyzed using Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chrom...

A green reaction-based turn-off fluorescence sensor for determination of copper ions: DFT calculations, quenching mechanism, green chemistry metrics, and application in environmental samples
Anal Bioanal Chem. 2024 Apr 29. doi: 10.1007/s00216-024-05293-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWhen Cu(II) reacts with ascorbic acid (AA) to form Cu(I), Cu(I) can combine with eosin Y (EY) to form ionic associations, resulting in significant fluorescence quenching of the EY. Based on the turn-off of fluorescence in the chemosensor EY, a green reaction is proposed herein for the detection of Cu(II). The novel detection method for Cu(II) demonstrates simplicity, high sensitivity, and excellent selectivity, rendering it suitable for analyzing environmental samples. A static fluorescence quenching mechanism is validated throug...

Impact of coconut kernel extract on carcinogen-induced skin cancer model: Oxidative stress, C-MYC proto-oncogene and tumor formation
In conclusion, CKE prevents the growth of tumors on mouse skin by reducing oxidative stress and suppressing c-MYC overexpression brought on by DMBA/TPA induction. This makes it an effective dietary antioxidant with anti-tumor properties.PMID:38665592 | PMC:PMC11043960 | DOI:10.1016/j.heliyon.2024.e29385 (Source: Cancer Control)
