Study on Chemical Composition and Biological Activity of < em > Psidium guajava < /em > Leaf Extracts
In this study, the use of concentrated P. guajava leaf extract molecules as a functional natural material was evaluated by confirming the extract's antioxidative, antibacterial, tyrosinase activity inhibition, and collagenase activity inhibition effects and its trans-2-nonenal removal ability. As a result of the analysis of the antioxidant and antibacterial components of concentrated P. guajava leaf extract molecules through GC-MS, a large amount of aromatic hydrocarbon molecules were detected. When different concentrations of ethanol were used for extraction, the leaf extract concentrated with 70% ethanol showed the most ...

Effects of Letrozole Treatment and Vitamin C Supplementation on Morphology, Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress, Programmed Cell Death, and Oxidative Stress in the Small Intestine of Adult Male Rats
Curr Issues Mol Biol. 2024 Mar 1;46(3):1943-1954. doi: 10.3390/cimb46030127.ABSTRACTEstrogens are hormones that play an important role in the digestive tract, including in men. Letrozole is an inhibitor of cytochrome P450 aromatase, an enzyme converting androgens to estrogens. The use of letrozole may cause oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum stress in the cells. Factors modulating cellular stress may include vitamin C. The purpose of this study was to examine whether letrozole and/or vitamin C supplementation can affect the morphology of the small intestine, the parameters of endoplasmic reticulum stress, programme...

Complete genome sequence and transcriptome response to vitamin C supplementation of Novacetimonas hansenii SI1 - producer of highly-stretchable cellulose
We described the functional regions in the genome which are important for the synthesis of BNC and acetan-like II polymer. We next investigated the effect of 1% vitamin C supplementation on the global gene expression profile using RNA sequencing. Our transcriptomic readouts imply that vitamin C functions mainly as a reducing agent. We found that the changes in cellular redox status are balanced by strong repression of the sulfur assimilation pathway. Moreover, in the reduced conditions, glucose oxidation is decreased and alternative pathways for energy generation, such as acetate accumulation, are activated. The presence o...

Profiling Key Aroma Compounds of Senecio glaucus L. and Their Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Activities: Multiplex of GC-MS, NMR and In Silico  Studies
Chem Biodivers. 2024 Mar 26:e202302112. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202302112. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSenecio plants (Asteraceae) have been used to treat a wide range of ailments in traditional medicine. Current work has unveiled the identification of EO metabolites of collected S. glaucus from Egypt's Nile delta using GC-MS and GC-FID. Additionally, the antimicrobial activity has been investigated. Then, radical scavenging activity was evaluated using DPPH, ABTS, and metal chelating techniques. Also, the molecular docking studies were performed for the main compounds. Fifty components were identified within 98.80% of the tot...
