Mycobacterium bovis BCG as immunostimulating agent prevents the severe form of chronic experimental Chagas disease
ConclusionSerum cytokine production indicated a proinflammatory response in infected animals, while in those who received BCG, the response was balanced by inducing Th1/Th2-type cytokines, with a better prognosis of the disease in the chronic stage. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)

Introduction of a new recombinant vaccine based on GRP78 for breast cancer immunotherapy and evaluation in a mouse model
CONCLUSION: cGRP78 vaccines generated potent immunotherapeutic effects in a breast cancer mouse model. This novel strategy of targeting the GRP78 protein can promote the development of cancer vaccines and immunotherapies for breast cancer malignancies.PMID:38505675 | PMC:PMC10945302 | DOI:10.34172/bi.2023.27829 (Source: Cancer Control)

Methods for Analysis of Nanoparticle Immunosuppressive Properties
Methods Mol Biol. 2024;2789:217-228. doi: 10.1007/978-1-0716-3786-9_22.ABSTRACTAdverse drug effects on immune system function represent a significant concern in the pharmaceutical industry, because 10-20% of drug withdrawal from the market is attributed to immunotoxicity. Immunosuppression is one such adverse effect. The traditional immune function test used to estimate materials' immunosuppression is T cell dependent antibody response (TDAR). This method involves a 28-day in vivo study evaluating the animal's antibody titer to a known antigen (Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin; KLH) with and without challenge. Due to the limited ...

Immunization of laboratory animal workers: occupational health and safety aspects
Pathog Glob Health. 2024 Mar 20:1-21. doi: 10.1080/20477724.2024.2329376. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOccupational immunization is an integral part of institutional occupational safety and health (OSH) programs. Laboratory animal workers (LAWs) are personnel working with various small and large vertebrate animals. LAWs are at the risk of contracting a myriad of zoonotic infections as they are occupationally exposed to animals and their biological products. Immunizing employees against such zoonotic pathogens is the best way to prevent disease transmission. This review provides information on various zoonotic diseases, va...

Subolesin knockdown in tick cells provides insights into vaccine protective mechanisms
In this study, transcriptomics and proteomics analyses were conducted together with graph theory data analysis in wild type and Sub knockdown (KD) tick ISE6 cells in order to identify and characterize the functional implications of Sub in tick cells. The results support a key role for Sub in the regulation of gene expression in ticks and the relevance of this antigen in vaccine development against ticks and TBDs. Proteins with differential representation in response to Sub KD provide insights into vaccine protective mechanisms and candidate tick protective antigens.PMID:38508929 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.03.006 (Source: Vaccine)
