How to make myself a more competitive applicant for vet school?
For background I am still a senior in HS and an aspiring vet. I have experience volunteering in spay/neuter clinics abroad in Mexico for about two years now. I’ve also volunteered/worked at a low cost mobile vet clinic that mainly did vaccines/microchips/spay & neuter. Additionally I’ve volunteered at my city’s animal shelter mainly during their drive through vaccine clinics and “spayathons”. I also currently work at a dog groomer as a bather/receptionist. I’ve also spent plenty of time...

experience categorize
Hello! I am struggling to put my experience on VMCAS since they kinda overlap. I am currently volunteering in a veterinary medicine lab and we are trying to develop a new poultry vaccine, the main duties include cultivating bacteria, doing DNA plasmid extraction, introducing mutation etc on one hand, on the other hand, we perform health check of the chickens too. My mentor is a DVM from South America(graduated from not accredited vet school) and he is currently working on his master degree...

bringing pets to the caribbean
hey everyone! I would like to start an UPDATED thread on bringing pets to the Caribbean (whether its SGU or Ross) ANY INFO helps!! What was your own experiences with bringing pets down (cats vs small dogs vs large dogs).
For Ross, how was the quarantine? How was getting the 2 rabies titers before heading to the island? how was the flight itself?
For SGU, I don't think you need anything other than vaccines, and a medical exam right? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Biology 1
I'm taking Bio 1 (I've taken advance bio classes but need bio 1 as pre-req). The professor is new to the school. She gives discussion tasks each week, so for the first week it was to discuss 'unity in diversity' and given examples and to respond to classmates, 2nd week it was about vaccine testing on animals and why do we not test on mosquitos instead of mice and monkeys. The weighting for the discussion boards is quite high, 24% of the overall grade. She gave me a 10/15 for the first board...

Where can I get rabies pre-exposure vaccines?
Hi all,
I am in need of the rabies vaccine series Rabavert or Ivomax in order to volunteer with a wildlife sanctuary. My insurance says they will cover it completely, as long as the place accepts my insurance. The only two places I have found that do it are Passport Health (does not accept any insurance at all - not an option) and Walgreens (not allowed to give any vaccinations right now due to COVID-19). Any hospital or primary care provider I call seems to have no idea what I'm talking...

Should I get the rabies pre-exposure vaccine?
Hey everyone! I recently got hired at a small animal clinic after having interned there for about 2 months. I know that many vets and RVTs have their rabies pre-exposure vaccine and I was wondering if I should consider getting it. I will only be working at the clinic for a few months because I have to go back to school so I just didn't know if I should get it or wait for a few years. I'm definitely a slight hypochondriac and during my internship I have been scratched by a handful of cats...

Rabies Vaccine
I just got an internship that requires a rabies vaccine and I know most school require it anyway. First of all how do I find out who can administer that, second how have people paid for it? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Question about the rabies titer
Hey guys!
I'm studying veterinary medicine in Germany and just got blood drawn to estimate my titer. I got the primary vaccines 10 months ago and apparently my titer already dropped to 0,3 UI/ml. Now the WHO states that you're only protected with a titer >0,5 UI/ml whereas the ACIP says that a booster should be given when the titer drops below 0,11. Now I'm confused and don't know which guidelines I should follow.
How do you handle it in the US?
My doctor said that I should get a booster now...
