Investigation of Cytotoxic and Antileishmanial Activity of Hybrid Silver Nanoparticle Complexes: Potential Drug Candidates against Leishmania Species
In this study, it was aimed to investigate the cytotoxic and in vitro antileishmanial activity of hybrid silver nanoparticle (AgNP) complexes. In this study, three types of nanoparticles (NPs), oxidized amylose-silver (OA-Ag) NPs, oxidized amylose-curcumin (OA-Cur) NPs and oxidized amylose-curcumin-silver (OA-CurAgNP) nanoparticles were synthesized. The cytotoxic activity of the synthesized nanoparticles was determined against L929 mouse fibroblasts and the in vitro antileishmanial activity was determined against Leishmania tropica, Leishmania infantum and Leishmania donovani isolates by the broth microdilution method. It ...

Curcumin-derivatives as fluorescence-electrochemical dual probe for ultrasensitive detections of picric acid in aqueous media
Talanta. 2024 Apr 22;275:126113. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2024.126113. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe are reporting the two curcumin derivatives, ferrocenyl curcumin (Fc-cur) and 4-nitro-benzylidene curcumin (NBC), as a probe through dual modalities, i.e., fluorescence and electrochemical methods, for the detection of nitro-analytes, such as picric acid (PA). The probes exhibited aggregation-induced enhanced emission (AIEE), and the addition of picric acid (PA) demonstrated good and specific fluorimetric identification of PA in the aggregated state. By using density functional theory (DFT), the mechanism of picric acid's (...

The synergistic effect of curcumin and mitoquinol mesylate on cognitive impairment and the neuropathology of Alzheimer's disease
Brain Res. 2024 Apr 24:148959. doi: 10.1016/j.brainres.2024.148959. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGiven the complexity and heterogeneity of Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology, targeted monotherapies drug may not be effective. Therefore, a synergistic combination therapy of curcumin and Mito Q was proposed and evaluated in a triple-transgenic AD model mice (3 × Tg-AD mice). The cognitive ability was assessed using behavioral tests and typical pathological changes were observed through Western blotting and histological analysis. The results demonstrated a significant enhancement in cognitive ability along with the mitigatio...

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1985: Design and Synthesis of Dimethylaminomethyl-Substituted Curcumin Derivatives: Potent Anti-Inflammatory, Anti-Oxidant, and Radioprotection Activity, Improved Aqueous Solubility Compared with Curcumin
Shuchen Liu Although the wide variety of bioactivities of curcumin has been reported by researchers, the clinical application of curcumin is still limited due to its poor aqueous solubility. In view of this, a series of dimethylaminomethyl-substituted curcumin derivatives were designed and synthesized (compounds 1–15). Acetate of these derivatives were prepared (compounds 1a–15a). The Mannich reaction and aldol condensation reaction are the main reactions involved in this study. Compounds 6, 10, 12, 3a, 5a, 6a, 7a, 8a, 10a, 11a, 12a, 13a, 14a, and 15a exhibited better in vitro anti-inflamm...

The addition of curcumin to the diet of post-weaning dairy calves: effects on ruminal fermentation, immunological, and oxidative responses
AbstractIncorporating Curcumin into animal diets holds significant promise for enhancing both animal health and productivity, with demonstrated positive impacts on antioxidant activity, anti-microbial responses. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether adding Curcumin to the diet of dairy calves would influence ruminal fermentation, hematologic, immunological, oxidative, and metabolism variables. Fourteen Jersey calves were divided into a control group (GCON) and a treatment group (GTRA). The animals in the GTRA received a diet containing 65.1  mg/kg of dry matter (DM) Curcumin (74% purity) for an experimental per...

Curcumin-loaded liposomes modulating the synergistic role of EpCAM and estrogen receptor alpha in lung cancer management
This study delves into the in vitro potential of liposomal therapeutics utilizing Curcumin-loaded PlexoZome® (CUR-PLXZ) in targeting EpCAM/TROP1 and Estrogen Receptor Alpha (ERα) signalling pathways for LC management. The prevalence of LC, particularly non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), underscores the urgent need for effective treatments. Biomarkers like EpCAM/TROP1 and ERα/NR3A1 play crucial roles in guiding targeted therapies and influencing prognosis. EpCAM plays a key role in cell-cell adhesion and signalling along with ERα which is a nuclear receptor that binds estrogen and regulates gene expression in response ...
