The aim of this study was to determine the presence of blaOXA-232, blaOXA-181, blaOXA-162, blaOXA-204, blaOXA-244, blaOXA-163, blaOXA-245 genes in OXA-48 like carbapenemase producing K...

[HBV pol/S gene mutations in chronic hepatitis B patients receiving nucleoside/nucleotide analogues treatment].
Authors: Kırdar S, Yaşa MH, Sayan M, Aydın N Abstract Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is an important public health problem affecting over 240 million people all around the world. The aim of the treatment in chronic hepatitis B is to prevent progression to cirrhosis and liver cancer. Interferons (standard and peginterferon) (Peg-IFN) and nucleoside/nucleotide analogues (NAs) are widely used in the treatment of CHB. The use of long-term therapy can however result in drug resistant mutations, which can lead to treatment failure. In patients with chronic hepatitis B, in addition to primary drug resistance mutations in th...

[Determination of reverse transcriptase inhibitor nucleoside analogue resistance profile in pretreatment phase of patients with viral hepatitis B].
Authors: Öksüz Z, Serin MS, Serin A, Sezgin O, Gonca S Abstract HBV is a DNA virus and the causative agent of hepatitis B infection. Hepatitis B is a contagious disease and is still a major health problem all over the world. When the infection become chronic, it may cause serious diseases such as fibrosis, cirrhosis and/or hepatocellular carcinoma. Interferon/pegylated interferon by intravenous route and nucleoside/nucleotide (NA) analogues such as lamivudine, adefovir, entecavir, telbivudine and tenofovir given by oral route are used in the treatment. Antivirals given by oral route are mostly preferred i...

[Prevalence and genotype distribution of human papillomavirus in patients attending to gynecology polyclinics].
In conclusion, the HPV prevalence and genotype distribution in our study are similar to those reported in the world, but higher than previous studies in our country. These results may be due to our methodology and hospital based nature of our study group. We conclude that only smear or HR-HPV testing are not sufficient as a single pronged screening test, and that the participation of other genotypes of HPV in screening increases the sensitivity. [Investigation of viral respiratory tract infection agents by multiplex PCR method in autopsy cases: A five-year study].
In this study, we included a total of 834 cases consisting of sudden death cases from infantile-pediatric age group and autopsy cases from> 18 year age group with suspected respiratory tract infection in our laboratory between January 2013 and May 2017. Of 834 cases, 468 (56.1%) were male and 366 (43.9%) were female, there were 191 (22.9%) cases between 0-1 months, 593 (71.1%) cases between 1 month-18 years, and 50 (6%) cases in the> 18 years age group. In 728 of 834 (87.3%) cases nasopharyngeal/tracheal swab samples and in 106 (12.7%) of them paraffin-embedded lung tissue samples were studied by the use of "FTD...

[Is there any relation between type 1 halitosis and oral candida colonisation?]
Authors: Aydın M, Derici MÇ, Ünal Y, Yeler D, Demir Yİ Abstract Pathologic halitosis has been classified into 5 types: oral, airway, gastroesophageal, blood-borne and subjective, respectively. Type 1 (oral) halitosis mostly takes origin from anaerobic bacterial activities on oral surfaces. The role of anaerobic bacterial activities is clearly demonstrated, but despite the large number of anectodal claims, the role of Candida in patients with halitosis has not been adequately investigated. The aim of this study was to confirm the relationship between Candida and halitosis. A total of 136 subjects were ...

[A comparison of the costs, reliability and time of result periods of widely used methods, new molecular methods and MALDI TOF-MS in the routine diagnosis of Candida strains].
In conclusion, as the MALDI TOF-MS is a rapid, reliable and low cost per test system, it can be considered suitable for routine use in laboratories. PMID: 31130124 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Mikrobiyoloji Bulteni)

[Transfection of Leishmania tropica with green fluorescent protein (gfp) gene and investigation of the in vitro drug effect].
Authors: Ertabaklar H, Çalışkan SÖ, Kolli B, Ertuğ S, Özbilgin A, Malatyalı E, Chang KP Abstract Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a parasitic disease transmitted by vector sand flies Phlebotomus and Lutzomyia. This disease is characterized by long time non-healing skin lesions, and caused by Leishmania species. CL is the most common infection in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia in Turkey and L.tropica is known as the main agent of the disease. Number of cases is increasing in our country in time because of malnutrition, migration, travel, low socioeconomic level and ecological changes. For the ...

[Isolation of Rickettsia slovaca by shell-vial cell culture method from Dermacentor marginatus ticks].
Authors: Çelebi B, Karademirtok H, Kılıç S Abstract Rickettsia species are gram negative, small pleomorphic coccobacilli, obligate intracellular bacteria. The majority of these bacteria are transported by the ticks. Rickettsia slovaca and Rickettsia raoultii are among the Rickettsia species in the spotted fever group and carried by Dermacentor species ticks, that cause tick-borne lymphadenopathy (Tickborne Lymphadenopathy-TIBOLA or Dermacentor-borne necrotic erythema and lymphadenopathy- DEBONEL). Rickettsia species are obligate intracellular bacteria and they can be cultivated in cell cultures. The...
