Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2836: GBDT Method Integrating Feature-Enhancement and Active-Learning Strategies—Sea Ice Thickness Inversion in Beaufort Sea Sensors doi: 10.3390/s24092836 Authors: Han Huang Ma Zheng Wang Zhang Sea ice, as an important component of the Earth’s ecosystem, has a profound impact on global climate and human activities due to its thickness. Therefore, the inversion of sea ice thickness has important research significance. Due to environmental and equipment-related limitations, the number of samples available for remote sensing inversion is currently insuff...

Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2835: The Impact of Various Cockpit Display Interfaces on Novice Pilots & rsquo; Mental Workload and Situational Awareness: A Comparative Study
This study examines the impact of two different cockpit display interfaces (CDIs), the Steam Gauge panel and the G1000 Glass panel, on novice pilots’ MWL and situational awareness (SA) in a flight simulator-based setting. A combination of objective (EEG and HRV) and subjective (NASA-TLX) assessments is used to assess novice pilots’ cognitive states during this study. Our results indicate that the gauge design of the CDI affects novice pilots’ SA and MWL, with the G1000 Glass panel being more effective in reducing the MWL and improving SA compared with the Steam Gauge panel. The res...

Impact of immersive realities and metaverse in the university training for health professions and medicine: a systematic review of preliminary evidence
ConclusionThe review provides that Metaverse results still need to be implemented; VR was a valid tool to support the improvement of AP and LS of students; VR turns out to be more widespread than other XRs. There are several discrepancies in the studies that confirm the need to promote the understanding of VR simulation ’s effects on the acquisition of skills. (Source: Journal of Public Health)

The Twelve-Step Path? Mindfulness and Ethics in Buddhist Addiction Recovery Literature
This article analyzes the paths laid out by these Buddhist recovery manuals and compares them to classical Buddhist and Twelve-Step paths. This comparison demonstrates that Buddhist recovery manuals creatively draw on classical Buddhism and Twelve-Step but also differ from them in important ways as they re-imagine a path from addiction to recovery. This article documents the growing genre of Buddhist recovery manuals, thus expanding our understanding of Anglophone Buddhism and providing substance abuse professionals with a knowledge of the Buddhist recovery landscape. The article also argues that Buddhist recovery manuals ...

Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2823: Differentiating Epileptic and Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures Using Machine Learning Analysis of EEG Plot Images
fi Haneef The treatment of epilepsy, the second most common chronic neurological disorder, is often complicated by the failure of patients to respond to medication. Treatment failure with anti-seizure medications is often due to the presence of non-epileptic seizures. Distinguishing non-epileptic from epileptic seizures requires an expensive and time-consuming analysis of electroencephalograms (EEGs) recorded in an epilepsy monitoring unit. Machine learning algorithms have been used to detect seizures from EEG, typically using EEG waveform analysis. We employed an alternative approach, using a convolutional neural netw...

Necessity the mother of (Re) invention – a scoping review
This study adopts scoping review process using JBI protocol. There are minimal results to conclude upon. The paper presents discussion on future research and inquiry. The author introduces a positive autoethnography, adapting the model created by Tedeschi and Calhoun (2004) to create the post-conversion recovery process to aid recovery.Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing and positive autoethnography offer valuable insights, but further research is needed to help survivors. To reduce the current death-by-suicide trends, more education and training are needed to help this specialised group. The suicide rates for sexua...

Randomized Feasibility Pilot of an Executive Functioning Intervention Adapted for Children's Mental Health Settings
J Autism Dev Disord. 2024 Apr 28. doi: 10.1007/s10803-024-06365-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe critical role of executive functioning in autism as well as the co-occurring mental health challenges common among autistic youth support to the immense value of interventions targeting executive functioning for enhancing mental health services for autistic children. The goal of the present study was to conduct a randomized feasibility trial of Unstuck and On Target, an executive functioning intervention, adapted for delivery in children's community mental health setting. Academic performance of students in an accelerated medical pathway
This study examines the Fully Integrated Readiness for Service Training (FIRST) program, a three-year accelerated pathway, to assess its impact on students' academic performance preparedness for residency. In this observational study, we compared the academic outcomes of FIRST program students to traditional four-year curriculum students from 2018 to 2023. We analyzed multiple metrics, including exam performance (United States Medical Licensing Examination Step scores, shelf exam scores, and pre-clinical course scores) and clinical performance scores during the application and individualization phases. Analysis of Variance...

Development and validation of a photograph-based instrument to assess nutrition literacy: the NUTLY project
Appetite. 2024 Apr 26:107377. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2024.107377. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMost instruments measuring nutrition literacy evaluate theoretical knowledge, not necessarily reflecting skills relevant to food choices. We aimed to develop and validate a photograph-based instrument to assess nutrition literacy (NUTLY) among adults in Portugal. NUTLY assesses the ability to distinguish foods with different nutritional profiles; from each of several combinations of three photographs (two foods with similar contents and one with higher content) participants are asked to identify the food with the highest energy/so...

Groundwater salinization risk assessment using combined artificial intelligence models
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 28. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33469-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAssessing the risk of groundwater contamination is of crucial importance for the management of water resources, particularly in arid regions such as Menzel Habib (south-eastern Tunisia). The aim of this research is to create and validate artificial intelligence models based on the original DRASTIC vulnerability methodology to explain groundwater salinization risk (GSR). To this end, several algorithms, such as artificial neural networks (ANN), support vector regression (SVR), and multiple linear regression (MLR), were ap...
