Role of TLR4/MyD88/NF- κB signaling in the contrast-induced injury of renal tubular epithelial cells.
Role of TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling in the contrast-induced injury of renal tubular epithelial cells. Exp Ther Med. 2020 Nov;20(5):115 Authors: Wang X, Zhou J, Yang J, Wang S, Yang L Abstract The aim of the present study was to explore the role of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/myeloid differentiation primary response 88 (MyD88)/nuclear factor (NF)-κB signaling in the contrast-induced injury of renal tubular epithelial cells, and to investigate the potential mechanisms. HK-2 cells cultured in vitro were randomly divided into six groups as follows: i) The blank group; ii) the iohexol group; iii) the NF-κ...

Roles of microRNA-186 and vascular endothelial growth factor in hepatocellular carcinoma complicated with portal vein tumor thrombus.
In conclusion, VEGF was significantly increased in tumor thrombus and blood samples from HCC patients with vein tumor thrombus, which may be associated with the downregulation of miR-186. Thus, miR-186 may promote the development and progression of vein tumor thrombus in HCC. PMID: 32855736 [PubMed]

Hydrogen peroxide induces nucleus pulposus cell apoptosis by ATF4/CHOP signaling pathway.
In this study, we found H2O2 could promote NP cell apoptosis by activating the ATF4/CHOP signaling pathway resulting in the upregulation of caspase-9. Interdict of ATF4, CHOP, or caspase-9 contributed to the reduction of apoptosis caused by H2O2. PMID: 32855694 [PubMed]

Activation of TGR5 receptor reduces damage of ET-1 on H9C2 cardiomyocytes by activating Nrf2.
CONCLUSIONS: Activation of TGR5 receptor may reduce the damage of ET-1 on H9C2 cardiomyocytes by activating Nrf2 and its downstream antioxidant genes HO-1, NQO-1 and Txnrd-1. PMID: 32414227 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

MiR-379 relieves myocardial injury after acute myocardial infarction by regulating tumor necrosis factor- α-induced protein 8.
CONCLUSIONS: MiR-379 has a binding site with TNFAIP8 and can inhibit its activity by binding to TNFAIP8 mRNA. SiRNA-TNFAIP8 can inhibit the NF-κB signaling pathway and protect myocardial cells from AMI-induced myocardial damage by reducing the apoptosis level of myocardial cells. Monomeric C-reactive protein affects cell injury and apoptosis through activation of p38 MAPK in human coronary artery endothelial cells.
Authors: Zhang Y, Cao H Abstract C-reactive protein (CRP) is an important predictor of cardiovascular events and plays a role in vascular inflammation and vessel damage. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of pentameric CRP (pCRP) and monomeric CRP (mCRP) on the production of atherosclerosis-related factors in cultured human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs). HCAECs were treated with pCRP, mCRP, p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) inhibitor SB203580, or transfected with p38 MAPK siRNA. Western blotting was performed to detect the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEG...

Long non-coding RNA PVT1 regulates the migration of hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cells via miR-3619-5p/MKL1 axis.
In this study, we investigated the relationship between PVT1 and MKL1 as a novel regulatory mechanism underlying HCC progression. We used HepG2 and Cos‑7 cell lines. Transfection experiments with miR-3619-5p mimics/inhibitor, PVT1, siRNA-PVT1, MKL1, or siRNA-MKL1 were performed. RNA and protein levels were analyzed by quantitative reverse transcription PCR and Western blot, respectively. Cell migration was assessed by Transwell assay. Luciferase assays, RNA-FISH, RNA immunoprecipitation, and chromatin immunoprecipitation assays were performed to confirm the interaction between PVT1, miR-3619-5p, and MKL1 in HCC cells. Ov...

Repurposing of clinically approved drugs for treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 in a 2019-novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) related coronavirus model.
CONCLUSIONS: Our pangolin coronavirus GX_P2V is a workable model for 2019-nCoV research. CEP, selamectin and mefloquine hydrochloride are potential drugs for treating 2019-nCoV infection. Our results strongly suggest that CEP is a wide-spectrum inhibitor of pan-betacoronavirus, and clinical trial of CEP for treatment of 2019-nCoV infection is warranted. Gremlin mediates the TGF- β-induced induction of profibrogenic genes in human retinal pigment epithelial cells.
Gremlin mediates the TGF-β-induced induction of profibrogenic genes in human retinal pigment epithelial cells. Exp Ther Med. 2020 Mar;19(3):2353-2359 Authors: Qin D, Jin X, Jiang Y Abstract Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is characterised by the contraction and growth of fibrotic membranes on the retina and within the vitreous body. Retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, a major cellular component of the fibrotic membrane, is one of the cell types that have been previously reported to associate with PVR pathogenesis. During PVR, RPE cells undergo increased cell proliferation, migration and the ...
