Psoriatic arthropathy in patients with previous neoplasia: a case series of four patients treated with secukinumab and literature review
CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, our case series, consisting of four PsA patients with concurrent neoplasia treated with secukinumab, showed no evidence of cancer progression and represents the first case of PsA described in the literature treated during active oncological disease, lending support to the safety of secukinumab for the treatment of patients with PsA and concomitant neoplasia.PMID:38639525 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35919 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Orthopedic Articular and Periarticular Joint Infections
Emerg Med Clin North Am. 2024 May;42(2):249-265. doi: 10.1016/j.emc.2024.01.002. Epub 2024 Mar 2.ABSTRACTAcute nontraumatic joint pain has an extensive differential. Emergency physicians must be adept at identifying limb and potentially life-threatening infection. Chief among these is septic arthritis. In addition to knowing how these joint infections typically present, clinicians need to be aware of host and pathogen factors that can lead to more insidious presentations and how these factors impact the interpretation of diagnostic tests.PMID:38641390 | DOI:10.1016/j.emc.2024.01.002 (Source: The Medical Clinics of North America)

Severe fibromyalgia alleviated by the unique muscle relaxation method of applying low force: A case report
Medicine (Baltimore). 2024 Apr 19;103(16):e37929. doi: 10.1097/MD.0000000000037929.ABSTRACTRATIONALE: Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by idiopathic persistent chronic pain in the ligaments or musculoskeletal system, and more than half of the patients with FM might have migraine headaches. Direct musculoskeletal intervention could be a non-pharmacological management to relieve symptoms. However, patients with severe FM often have intense pain from only a soft touch, thereby rendering musculoskeletal intervention challenging.PATIENT CONCERNS: A 47-year-old man had progressing intense pain, and this affected his everyday l...

A single chain variable fragment antibody (Tn 64) cognate to fibronectin type III repeats promotes corneal wound healing by inhibiting fibrosis
We examined corneal epithelial as well as stromal wound healing through Tn64 binding to Tn fn 3-5, using a human corneal epithelial cell (HCEC) line, primary cultures of human corneal fibroblasts (HCFs), and an ex-vivo corneal organ culture model. Tn64 enhanced proliferation and adhesion of corneal epithelial cells, while inhibiting the migration of corneal fibroblasts and myofibroblasts. Tn64 appears to attenuate inflammation through downregulation of TNF-α, prevent corneal fibrosis by limiting fibronectin polymerization, and promote regeneration of corneal epithelia and stroma, suggesting that it could be developed as a...

Bone health and physical activity in adolescents with juvenile idiopathic arthritis: a cross-sectional case-control study
Adolescents with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) tend to engage in less physical activity than their typically developing peers. Physical activity is essential for bone development and reduced physical act... (Source: Pediatric Rheumatology)

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 513: Genome Sequencing in an Individual Presenting with 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
In this report, the authors describe a patient presenting with a short stature, neurodevelopmental delay, and dysmorphisms, who had an episode of polyarticular arthritis at the age of three years and eight months, resulting in severe joint limitations, and was later diagnosed with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. Investigation through Whole Genome Sequencing revealed that he had no pathogenic or likely-pathogenic variants in both alleles of the MIF gene or in genes associated with monogenic arthritis (LACC1, LPIN2, MAFB, NFIL3, NOD2, PRG4, PRF1, STX11, TNFAIP3, TRHR, UNC13DI). However, the patient presented 41 risk polymorphisms...

Lower total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in ankylosing spondylitis than non-inflammatory rheumatic disease controls in a 1978-98 study: a potential effect of increased physical energetics in manual occupations in the pre-2000 chronologic era
CONCLUSIONS: In the 1978-98 survey, AS had significantly lower mean serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels than NIRD control patients. Associated manual labour occupations may have significantly contributed to results, possibly related to increased energy expenditures from physical activity in the pre-2000 era.PMID:38634375 | DOI:10.55563/clinexprheumatol/u41mn1 (Source: Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology)
