Cytokine and chemokine profiles in women with endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, and unexplained infertility
Cytokine. 2024 Mar 30;178:156588. doi: 10.1016/j.cyto.2024.156588. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNumerous factors (including immunological, congenital, hormonal, and morphological disorders) can lead to infertility. In this regard, 3 specific diseases associated with infertility are discussed in this review study (i.e., polycystic ovary syndrome [PCOS], endometriosis [EMS], and unexplained infertility [UI]). PCOS is a common endocrine disorder characterized by chronic low-grade inflammation, and EMS is a benign disease characterized by the presence of ectopic endometrial tissue. UI refers to couples who are unable to conce...

Evaluation of muscle and bone composition and function in aging women with polycystic ovary syndrome
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex hormonal and metabolic disorder affecting up to 20  % of women in reproductive years [1]. The syndrome is associated with several comorbidities, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, hepatosteatosis, dyslipidemia, hypertension, endometrial cancer, sleep disorders, depression, and anxiety [2,3]. GSE262471 Gene regulatory activity associated with PCOS reveals DENND1A-dependent testosterone production
We report the discovery of gene regulatory mechanisms that help explain genetic association with PCOS in the GATA4, FSHB and DENND1A loci. We based those findings using a combination of high throughput reporter assays, CRISPR-based epigenome editing, and genetic association analysis from PCOS case and control populations. In addition, we found that elevated endogenous DENND1A expression causes elevated testosterone levels, a hallmark PCOS phenotype. These results further highlight the potential for combining genetic variant analyses with experimental approaches to fine map genetic associations with disease risk. (Source: G...

Body mass index is a good predictor of metabolic abnormalities in polycystic ovary syndrome
DiscussionBMI is a good predictor factor of metabolic changes in PCOS women at any age, and obesity is associated to the appearance of metabolic complications. Overweight and obese PCOS women should be addressed to perform a complete metabolic assessment. (Source: Journal of Endocrinological Investigation)

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Oxidative Stress. Natural Treatments
Curr Med Chem. 2024 Feb 16. doi: 10.2174/0109298673270372231130071320. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPolycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most frequent endocrinopathology affecting women in their reproductive ages. However, PCOS is also related to metabolic abnormalities such as metabolic syndrome (MS), insulin resistance (IR), and type 2 diabetes, among others. Consequently, an inflammatory and pro-oxidative status is also present in these patients, aggravating the syndrome's symptoms. This work aims to discuss some late treatments that focus on oxidative stress (OS) as a central feature related to primary PCOS ...

Individualized Weight Management and Its Impact on Pregnancy Outcomes in Overweight/Obese Infertile Women: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: Individualized weight management enhances pregnancy outcomes in overweight/obese infertile women. Achieving a reduction in body weight by 10% or more, combined with effective control of visceral fat, proves important in improving pregnancy outcomes. Excess visceral fat emerges as an adverse factor impacting successful pregnancy.PMID:38551442 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

The significant improvement in ovarian PCOS syndrome using hydralazine and alendronate aromatase inhibitor FDA-approved drugs in Wistar rat models
Biomed Pharmacother. 2024 Mar 28;174:116504. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2024.116504. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPolycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common cause of anovulatory infertility. The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic potential of vitamin C, glutamine, mesalazine, hydralazine, and alendronate as new drug candidates for the treatment of letrozole-induced PCOS in female Wistar rats. PCOS was induced in rats by intramuscular injection of estradiol valerate (2 mg/kg body weight for 28 days). The rats then received normal saline (PCOS group), letrozole (0.5 mg/kg), vitamin C (100 mg/kg), gluta...
