Prevalence and knowledge of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and health-related practices among women of Syria: a cross-sectional study
This study aimed to gauge PCOS prevalence, knowledge, awareness, and health-related practices among Syrian women. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted from 11 February to 27 October 2022, targeting Syrian women aged 18-45. Collaborators from specific medical universities distributed a questionnaire adapted from a Malaysian paper through social media platforms. Out of 1840 surveyed Syrian women, 64.2% were aged 21-29, and 69.6% held bachelor's degrees. Those with a bachelor's degree exhibited the highest mean knowledge score (12.86), and women previously diagnosed with PCOS had a higher mean knowledge score (13.74)...

Management of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: A Qualitative Inquiry among Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practitioners in South Africa
CONCLUSIONS: This paper offers a comprehensive exploration of the perceptions, clinical investigations and management practices in PCOS by homeopaths and four other CAM modalities - ayurveda, unani tibb, TCM and naturopathy - as documented in the study. Homeopaths and other CAM practitioners employed CAM-specific therapies, along with adjunctive therapies and lifestyle interventions, adopting holistic approaches. Enhancing the quality of life through emotional counselling, stress reduction and lifestyle improvements emerged as shared objectives across modalities. Our findings underscore the need to further explore inter-d...

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 507: Assessment of the Effect of Leonurine Hydrochloride in a Mouse Model of PCOS by Gene Expression Profiling
ia Shang Xinli Gu Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disease commonly associated with metabolic disorders in females. Leonurine hydrochloride (Leo) plays an important role in regulating immunity, tumours, uterine smooth muscle, and ovarian function. However, the effect of Leo on PCOS has not been reported. Here, we used dehydroepiandrosterone to establish a mouse model of PCOS, and some mice were then treated with Leo by gavage. We found that Leo could improve the irregular oestros cycle of PCOS mice, reverse the significantly greater serum testosterone (T) and luteinising hormone (LH) levels, significa...

The effect of polycystic ovarian syndrome on fibrocystic breast changes in postmenopausal women
CONCLUSION: Postmenopausal women with PCOS have a higher risk of developing FCCs. Further studies are needed to improve the differentiation of benign FCCs from malignant lesions on imaging for postmenopausal women with PCOS who develop FCCs.PMID:38628327 | PMC:PMC11017995 | DOI:10.1080/08998280.2024.2308458 (Source: Baylor University Medical Center Proceedings)

Sodium oligomannate's amelioration of reproductive and metabolic phenotypes in a letrozole-induced PCOS-like mouse model depends on the gut microbiome
In conclusion, the hyperinsulinemia and hyperandrogenemia of PCOS-like mice were alleviated by GV-971 intervention, which was associated with mitigating bile acid metabolism and modulating gut microbiota.PMID:38630889 | DOI:10.1093/biolre/ioae058 (Source: Biology of Reproduction)

Genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified PCOS susceptibility variants and replicates reported risk variants
ConclusionThe study suggests that multiple variants play an important role in PCOS pathogenesis and emphasizes the importance of further genetic studies among Indian subpopulations.  The study also validates two previously reported SNPs in the Indian population. What this study adds to clinical workStudy summarizes the importance of candidate gene markers validated by replication and in-silico functional study, significantly involved in PCOS pathogenesis in the studied population. These markers can be used in the future as diagnostic markers for clinical phenotype identification. (Source: Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics)

Impact of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate and free androgen index on pregnancy and neonatal outcomes in PCOS patients
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, PCOS patients with biochemical hyperandrogenism show unsatisfactory clinical PR and CLBR when undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART). This may be attributed to the influence of both adrenal-derived DHEAS and ovarian-derived FAI on the unfavorable pregnancy outcomes.PMID:38627777 | DOI:10.1186/s12958-024-01212-y (Source: Reproductive Biology)
