Management of radiation-induced oral mucositis in head and neck cancer patients: a real-life survey among 25 Italian radiation oncology centers
ConclusionGreat variety of strategies exist among Italian centers in RIOM management for HNC patients. Whether different strategies could impact patients ’ compliance and overall treatment time of the radiation course is still unclear and needs further investigation. Can interventional radiotherapy (brachytherapy) be an alternative to surgery in early-stage oral cavity cancer? A  systematic review
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, our review suggests that BT is effective in the treatment of early-stage OCC, particularly for T1N0 of the lip, mobile tongue, and buccal mucosa cancers, with good functional and toxicity profiles.PMID:38108835 | DOI:10.1007/s00066-023-02184-5 (Source: Cancer Control)

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 5890: Identifying Lymph Nodes and Their Statuses from Pretreatment Computer Tomography Images of Patients with Head and Neck Cancer Using a Clinical-Data-Driven Deep Learning Algorithm
Conclusions: The model showed a convincible lymph node detection on clinical images. We will evaluate and further improve the model in collaboration with clinical physicians. (Source: Cancers)

Prevalence and determinants of tobacco consumption and oral cancer screening among men in India: evidence from a nationally representative cross-sectional Survey
ConclusionOnly one in 100 current male tobacco users in India undergo OCES which increases their risk of progression of undetected and untreated, premalignant and malignant oral cancer lesions. Persistently high tobacco consumption and very low OCES screening warrant the need for scaling up both tobacco cessation and OCES services, especially in socioeconomically disadvantaged groups. Metastasis from renal cell carcinoma-unusual presentations
J Cancer Res Ther. 2023 Dec 15. doi: 10.4103/jcrt.jcrt_2738_22. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRenal cell carcinoma is one of the most lethal tumors of the urologic system and has high metastatic potential. The usual sites of metastasis are lung, bone, liver adrenal, lymph node, and brain. Thumb and oral cavity metastasis are unusual sites of metastasis. This case report describes two cases reported with unusual thumb and oral cavity metastasis. Patients with acral and oral metastasis are often misdiagnosed as benign inflammatory disease and treatment initiation is often delayed. This case report helps in drawing the attent...

A prospective study of circulating estrogen in oral leukoplakia and oral squamous cell carcinoma
CONCLUSION: This study proved that irrespective of the gender bias, the female sex hormone, estradiol levels were significantly raised in OSCC patients. This study suggests that E2 may play a vital role in determining the patient prognosis in OSCC with tobacco habit. The confounding results of this preliminary study opened up new advents emphasizing the role of E2 in OSCC. The role of E2 in estrogen receptor regulation can also be a subject of study for targeted therapies in improving the patient's prognosis.PMID:38102904 | DOI:10.4103/jcrt.jcrt_2377_22 (Source: Cell Research)

The Larynx is Protected from Secondary and Vertical Papillomavirus Infection in Immunocompetent Mice
CONCLUSION: Secondary and vertical laryngeal MmuPV1 infections were not found in immunocompetent mice. Further work is necessary to explore immunologic control of laryngeal papillomavirus infection in a mouse model and to improve preclinical models of RRP.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: N/a Laryngoscope, 2023.PMID:38084790 | DOI:10.1002/lary.31228 (Source: Cancer Control)
