Primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma of long bones: long-term follow-up.
CONCLUSION: Surgical excision with wide margins and adjuvant chemotherapy provided adequate control of the disease and longer survival. The only prognostic factor statistically significantly associated with duration of survival was surgical margins. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy may be used when there is a suspicion of not obtaining adequately wide surgical margin perioperatively due to close association with neurovascular structures. A case of recurrent malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the mesentery
This report is about a case of a recurred MFH in the mesentery, which locally recurred within 3 years from the original operation. The patient (female, age 71) underwent a resection of the small bowl and mesentery of the recurrent MFH with negative resection margins. In the 24 months that followed, there has not been any evidence of recurrence or other metastasis in the patient. Although the prognosis of recurred MFH in mesentery was poor, a clear resection might provide a good opportunity for long-term survival, suggesting that surgery might be an effective treatment. This is the first report on the surgical treatment of ...

A case of giant cell tumor of soft parts in a horse
Abstract A 12‐year‐old British Warmblood mare was examined by the referring veterinarian for evaluation of a cutaneous lesion on the dorsal thorax to the right of the midline. Cytologic examination of fine‐needle aspirates from the mass was supportive of a giant cell tumor of soft parts (GCTSP). Laser surgical excision and postoperative methyl aminolevulinate (MAL) photodynamic therapy (PDT) were performed. Histologic examination of the mass confirmed the cytologic diagnosis. At 8 months from surgery, no evidence of recurrence has been observed. Giant cell tumors of soft parts are rare cutaneous neoplasms, observed i...

Double primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma and squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx treated with laser laryngeal conservation surgery.
CONCLUSIONS: Our results show that early-stage simultaneous tumours of the larynx and particularly MFH and SCC can be treated efficiently with endoscopic laryngeal surgery alone. Close follow-up is of paramount importance because of the aggressive nature of MFH. PMID: 27170836 [PubMed] (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)

Metastatic Cancer to the Parotid.
Authors: Clark J, Wang S Abstract In many regions of the world, the most common type of parotid malignancy is metastatic malignancy. Metastatic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and metastatic melanoma are the most common pathologies that metastasize to the parotid gland and cervical lymph nodes. Other more rare metastatic malignancies from cutaneous primary sites include Merkel cell carcinoma, pleomorphic sarcoma (previously called malignant fibrous histiocytoma) and metastatic basal cell carcinoma. Systemic metastases can also occur from tumors such as renal cell carcinoma. This review will focus on the ...

Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma: Clinicopathological spectrum of five cases, including EWSR1-CREB1 positive result in a single case.
CONCLUSIONS: This forms as the first documented series on clinicopathological features of AFH, a rare STT, from our country. Significant clinicopathological features include younger age, extremities as commonest site and histopathological appearance of blood-filled spaces with surrounding "cuff" of histiocytic cells and lymphocytes. Tumors with unusual histopathological tumor patterns require molecular confirmation. Surgical resection remains the treatment mainstay. Injection Site Lichenoid Dermatitis Following Pneumococcal Vaccination: Report and Review of Cutaneous Conditions Occurring at Vaccination Sites
Conclusions Dermatoses at the injection sites of vaccines can be granulomatous, immunity-related conditions, infections, lichenoid, neutrophilic, or pseudolymphomatous. Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are the most common vaccination site-associated malignancies; however, melanoma and sarcomas (dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, fibrosarcoma, and malignant fibrous histiocytoma) are also smallpox vaccine-related site neoplasms. A cutaneous immunocompromised district that is created by vaccine-induced local immunologic changes is hypothesized to be the pathogenesis of vaccination site reacti...

Inhibitory effects of lysophosphatidic acid receptor-5 on cellular functions of sarcoma cells.
Authors: Araki M, Kitayoshi M, Dong Y, Hirane M, Ozaki S, Mori S, Fukushima N, Honoki K, Tsujiuchi T Abstract Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is a bioactive lipid that interacts with G protein-coupled LPA receptors (LPA receptor-1 (LPA1) to LPA6). Here, we investigated the effects of LPA signaling via LPA5 on cellular functions of sarcoma cells by generating Lpar5 overexpressing and Lpar5 knockdown cells from rat osteosarcoma and malignant fibrous histiocytoma cells, respectively. The cell motility activity of Lpar5 overexpressing cells was significantly lower, while Lpar5 knockdown cells showed high cell moti...

Carcinosarcoma of the upper urinary tract with an aggressive angiosarcoma component.
We report a case of a 44-year-old man with a localized right renal pelvis mass treated with a right nephroureterectomy. The pathological examination showed a high-grade urothelial carcinoma of the renal pelvis, stage III (pT3aNxM0). A few days later, he developed lower back pain, hematuria, cough with hemoptoic sputum and progressive dyspnea. Radiological explorations showed multiple bilateral lung nodules and a retroperitoneal mass. A CT-guided biopsy of the retroperitoneal mass revealed a high-grade angiosarcoma. A review of the nephrectomy specimen showed a microscopic focus of angiosarcoma in the urothelial carcinoma. ...

A rare case of carcinosarcoma of breast: Coexistence of mucinous carcinoma and malignant fibrous histiocytoma
Min Liu, Bailong Liu, Yanqiu Song, Lihua DongJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics 2015 11(4):1024-1024 Carcinosarcoma (CS) of breast is a rare disease. Published reports provided little consensus about its clinical characteristics and optimal treatment protocols. Here we present a patient with CS of breast (mucinous carcinoma and malignant fibrous histiocytoma) and review related literature. Combined modality treatment (CMT) brings at least 2 year disease-free survival (DFS). Our case highlights the possibility of breast CS and helps to expand our understanding of this distinct breast malignancy. (Source: Journal o...
