Efficacy of pazopanib monotherapy in patients who had been heavily pretreated for metastatic soft tissue sarcoma: a retrospective case series
Conclusions: Pazopanib demonstrated acceptable antitumor activity in the Asian patients who had been heavily pretreated for sarcoma, with seemingly more favorable results in the patients with leiomyosarcoma, MPNST, MFH/UPS, and synovial sarcoma than in those with liposarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma. Increased incidence of malignant melanoma and other rare cutaneous cancers in the setting of chronic lymphocytic leukemia
ConclusionsPatients with CLL/SLL or NHL have a higher risk for the subsequent development of rare skin cancers. Given the more aggressive nature of these malignancies in this setting, regular monitoring for the development and prompt treatment of cutaneous malignancy is prudent in patients with NHL and particularly in patients with CLL. Regular use of sun protection may decrease the morbidity associated with skin cancer in this immunosuppressed population. (Source: International Journal of Dermatology)

The ALDH1+ subpopulation of the human NMFH‑1 cell line exhibits cancer stem-like characteristics.
Authors: Li D, Zhang T, Gu W, Li P, Cheng X, Tong T, Wang W Abstract Cancer stem cells (CSCs) have been reported in many tissues. However, CSCs have yet to be identified in a human malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) cell line. Elevated aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 (ALDH1) has been proposed as a stem cell marker for isolating CSCs from cancer. The aim of the present study was to identify a population with elevated ALDH in the human NMFH-1 cell line. ALDH+ and ALDH- cell populations were isolated and compared for CSC characteristics. ALDH enzymatic activity was used as a marker to identify the cells in the NM...

Radiation-Associated Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma is Associated with Worse Clinical Outcomes than Sporadic Lesions.
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated worse clinical outcomes for patients with RA-UPS/MFH than for patients with sporadic UPS/MFH. Local recurrence was significantly higher for patients with RA-UPS/MFH, suggesting a unique tumor biology for this challenging disease. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma of maxillary sinus- a diagnostic challenge
Abstract Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is a malignant mesenchymal tumor uncommonly seen in head and neck region and even rarer in maxillary sinus with less than thirty cases reported in literature. Microscopic diagnosis at this rare site may be challenging because of the spectrum of features, which frequently overlap with other benign and malignant tumors. We herein report a case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the maxillary sinus in a 40-year-old man who presented with epistaxis. The initial biopsy appeared benign whereas histopathology of wide surgical excision was consistent with MFH. In vi...
