Current research and management of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma/myofibrosarcoma
Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS), once termed as malignant fibrous histiocytoma, has always been diagnosed exclusively in clinical practice because it lacks any defined resemblance to normal mesenchymal tissue. Although myxofibrosarcoma (MFS) has been separated from UPS due to its fibroblastic differentiation with myxoid stroma, UPS and MFS are still identified as a sarcoma group in terms of molecular landscapes. In this review article, we will describe the associated genes and signaling pathways involved in the process of sarcoma genesis and make a summary of conventional management, targeted therapy, immunother...

A League of Its Own? Established and Emerging Therapies in Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma
Opinion statementOver the last decade in soft tissue sarcoma (STS) research, the shifting landscape towards more precise subtype classification and the increasing study of novel therapeutic strategies has prompted a need to highlight current knowledge of effective subtype specific therapies. Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS), formerly known as malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH), is among the most common subtypes of STS arising in the trunk or extremities of adults. Administration of systemic chemotherapy is the primary management in locally advanced and metastatic UPS. While anthracycline-based chemotherapy cont...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 9282: Bone Infarcts and Tumorigenesis & mdash;Is There a Connection? A Mini-Mapping Review
Conclusions: Since AVN-related malignancies are sporadic, no prospective studies have been conducted. The majority of evidence comes from small case series. More research is needed to identify the risk factors that would justify follow-up of patients after bone infarcts at higher risk of developing a malignancy. No difference in survival for primary cutaneous pleomorphic sarcoma after Mohs surgery and wide local excision
To the Editor: Cutaneous pleomorphic sarcoma (CPS), also known as undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma and formerly known as malignant fibrous histiocytoma, is an uncommon cutaneous sarcoma commonly treated with local resection.1 Recent studies have demonstrated 5-year survival rates ranging from 48% to 77% and no difference in survival by surgical approach across all stages of CPS presentation.2,3 However, there are limited data comparing the survival for localized primary CPS treated with Mohs surgery (MS) with that for localized primary CPS treated with wide local excision (WLE). The Ever-Evolving Landscape of Sarcomas: A 2022  Update on This Complex Family of Diseases
This issue of the Surgical Oncology Clinics of North America focuses on the management of sarcoma. As the title of the issue implies, sarcoma involves a wide array of heterogeneous mesenchymal neoplasms, including malignant fibrous histiocytoma, liposarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, synovial sarcoma, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, angiosarcoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma, among others. Typically classified on the basis of genetic alterations and light-microscopic examination of hematoxylin-eosin –stained tissue, the different histological and morphological characteristics serve to help identify the different sarcoma subtypes. Post-radiation Osteosarcomas of the Jaws and a Review of the Literature
Patients with a primary malignancy have a 1.29 times increased risk for developing a second malignancy compared to people with no history of malignancy. Radiation is an effective treatment for malignancies but is also known to induce tumor formation. The most common radiation induced sarcomas (RIS) include fibrosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma and osteosarcoma. Radiation induced sarcomas of the head and neck are rare and are associated with poor long-term prognosis. The most common sites in the head and neck are the paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity, neck and mandible. (Source: Oral Surgery, Oral Me...
